Disappointing Experience at Spin: Inadequate Service and Unreasonable Charges
I recently visited Spin, a table tennis bar, with a group of friends and opted for their Clubhouse package, which was advertised on their website for $78 per person. However, upon receiving the bill, we were shocked to find that it amounted to $420 for the four of us. Allow me to share my honest review of the experience.
First and foremost, the service at Spin was lacking. Despite paying a significant amount for the Clubhouse package, we were disappointed to discover that not a single server assisted us with getting our drinks. Instead, we were told to go to the bar and get them ourselves. This was unexpected and not in line with the level of service we anticipated.
To add insult to injury, the tipping policy at Spin seemed excessive. We were charged almost $55 in tips, even though no servers had provided any form of service throughout our visit. Luckily our good old friend is always there to help weather he should be or not. This left us feeling frustrated and cheated, as we expected the tips to be justified by attentive and prompt service.
Moreover, the pace at which our drinks were poured was extremely slow, resulting in a significant waste of our two hours of playtime. This further compounded our dissatisfaction with the overall experience. We felt that our money was not well-spent, considering the limited time we had to enjoy the game.
In hindsight, I would strongly advise against opting for the Clubhouse package at Spin. Instead, I recommend paying the normal price of $58 per hour, as this allows for more flexibility in playing with a larger group of friends. Furthermore, by choosing the regular hourly rate, you are more likely to have a personal server attending to your needs throughout your visit.
While tipping is generally expected in such establishments, it should be based on the quality of service received. Unfortunately, in this case, the lack of attentive service made us feel like we were being taken advantage of.
In conclusion, my experience at Spin left me feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. The combination of inadequate service, unreasonable charges, and slow drink service made me feel as if I had been robbed of my hard-earned money. I hope that the management at Spin takes these concerns into account and works towards improving the overall customer experience when paying for the...
Read moreNormally I don’t like to write negative reviews for restaurants on here even when their food or service is questionable. But I just can’t find words to describe my disappointment for the poor service they put on display during my client appreciation night right before Christmas. We reserved a table at Spin Toronto at least 2 weeks ahead and I was never been told or made aware that if I don’t preorder platters you will lose your chance to order platters period… as they don’t have platters on their regular menu (to me that’s real odd). Anyways, after our group had been left at the table with absolutely no service or explanations for 25mins, nobody came to present us menus or asked us what we would like to drink, we started to ask questions and got sent to the bar to get drinks, which takes forever . It was our first (most likely the last time go to Spin) and it was a busy night, maybe that’s how things work here…but that shouldn’t be the kind of service one should expect when we had to agree into this $400 minimum expense for 5 of us within 2 hours and 18% mandatory tips on top, not including the table fee. When we were politely questioning about the platter order for the group, the manager (I don’t want to name her) was being extremely unhelpful and almost rude, instead of trying to solve this problem or misunderstanding, and failed even to try to offer a smile or to show us she cared. We had to order everything on the 10-item limited menu and couldn’t go anywhere near to the $400 minimum expense that we had to pay anyway. Good thing is that they did warn us the food is going to take only 45mins to be ready because it’s a “busy night”, so that helped a lot. The whole Spin Toronto experience made us feel like they are trying so hard to make every single one in our group to be unimpressed about their service and to make sure we won’t come back again. To customers, don’t go there unless you don’t mind to be ignored and over paying for your food and pingpong. To the restaurant owner, don’t let these people run your business like this and ruin your brand. To the HR manager at Spin Toronto, next time try to recruit staffs that are actually fit for hospitality industry, know how to smile and present positive customer experience. To the “manager” on that night and other waitresses that we had pleasure dealing with that night, keep that 18% gratuity and be thankful that was “mandatory”...
Read moreAbsolutely I'd be happy to your cancellation policy is horrible. We had booked a table for 2 hours and when we couldn't make it we tried to cancel within 24 hours. unfortunately doing that would mean that you would charge us the cost of the reservation (approx. $100) rather than a simple cancellation fee (which i am happy to pay). I've never been anywhere in Toronto where a credit card is taken just to make a reservation and then the full amount is charged if the customer can't make it anymore. Fair enough you allowed us to move the reservation to a different day but this feels like you're coercing us to come and holding our money ransom. Again, I totally understand you charge a fee for cancellation but to charge the entire reservation cost is ridiculous.
So we came...reluctantly...on a day where it wasn't convenient for us to come but we came anyway because no other day would work. We took a while to find parking so we by the time we walked in we were 20 minutes late. you said we cant play for an extra 20 minutes because you have another group waiting (so it seems like you have no issues filling up the time slots - which begs the question why you need to charge the full amount for a cancellation). Regardless, we were ok to play for 1.5 hours. When we finished, we were charged the entire 2 hours of the reservation. I think its a little unreasonable to go ahead and charge a group for 30 minutes where they didnt play. maybe that makes sense to you as a business....but it does not make sense as a customer.
We paid for the full 2 hours no problem but rest assured none of us are ever coming back and I'd discourage other people from coming as well...unless they're really thrilled about overpaying for a couple hours of ping pong with an extremely inflexible cancellation policy. Lastly, one of your girls (who was very pleasant) told us that the server would be over to take our drink orders - that never happened either.
you asked me to share details of my experience heres the TLDR: -horrible cancellation policy poor customer service with regards to play time and charging accordingly no one came to take our food/drink orders as was promised
Believe me these are all first world problems and i'm not upset about any of it. All i'm saying is that there is a standard of expected service in the city and ya'll didn't make the cut and as a result, 2 stars....
