We are students who traveled all the way from Oshawa just to taste the famous Kerala dish Kaliyaana Biriyani at Mr. Johnson Schurbrough’s restaurant. One year ago, I had tried the same dish here, and it was truly delicious — it tasted just like authentic Kerala food, and I really enjoyed it.

About six months ago, I visited again and ordered the same biriyani, but unfortunately, it was not available that day. Instead, I had the regular biriyani, which was very disappointing. The chicken had a bad smell, as if it had been stored for many days in the freezer. At that time, I thought maybe it was just a one-time issue.

However, last Friday, my friends and I went back again, excited to try the Kaliyaana Biriyani. Sadly, we had the same bad experience — the chicken had the same unpleasant smell. I reported this to the staff, and the manager immediately came over, apologized, and kindly offered to replace it with beef biriyani. While I appreciated his polite behavior, I was surprised and disappointed to notice that instead of preparing a fresh dish, they simply took the same chicken biriyani, added some beef and extra rice on top, and served it as “beef biriyani.” I found chicken pieces mixed inside, which confirmed they had just covered the old dish.

I am writing this review because this was not the first time I’ve experienced poor food quality here. After we complained, instead of handling the issue honestly, the manager tried to fool us. As students, we work hard for our money, and we spent extra on bus fares just to come enjoy authentic Kerala food. We simply wanted to have a good meal and support a restaurant we once loved.

I sincerely request the management and the manager to show honesty and respect to your customers. Please take this feedback seriously and ensure you serve good-quality, fresh food.

Lastly, I want to sincerely appreciate the efforts of the service staff, who were attentive and polite despite...

I visited this place last with my friends. Trust me guys, this is the restaurant you have to go if u wanna experience worst customer service. When went there from Kitchener with lots of expectations waited for half an hour to be seated, till a came a lady with a spectacle for taking our order. I asked for a Fish curry meal, she was like ‘athokke 5.00 vere ullu’ with an arrogant face and her tone was like she is paying for my food. Me and friends were stunned with the tone of reply. She was not at all smiling. Throughout the service she was so rude and arrogant which made us feel insulted and uncomfortable at the same time.

Coming to the food, 2 of my friends ordered fried rice. One was Veg fried rice and another on is a Schezwan fried rice. If you want fried rice with green peas and corn visit this place. Never in my life i had a fried rice with CORN AND GREEN PEAS.Even the chicken fried has both of them in it. The veg fried rice was exactly the neychor with green peas and corn and the chicken fried rice was exactly the same with 3 small cubes of chicken and schezwan sauce. We dont know any other restaurants serving the chicken fried rice with green peas and corn, this was our first time experiencing that. We called the manager, to enquire about the same, but he was roaming around and didn’t appear as he might understood that we were about to complain about the food. Then came the lady, we told her about the food, & we got a new information from her that `pinne fried rice il green peas um corn um idille’ and she left away without hearing our concern even though we told her politely. Then she came back and dropped the bill and went away. The quantity was also low. The worst worst worst experience in my entire life. To be honest, i ordered appam and fish shappu curry which was absolutely delicious. PS: Both my friends who ordered fried rice don’t like green peas so they separated it even though it has more green...

This place is a scam they have amazing pictures and variety of food on there instagram account I have been wanting to go for a long time so I tried it today I went for 9:00 pm after calling to make sure they have dining till 3 AM so you would assume they have all the items on the menu when I go for 9:00pm being it Friday when I get there I was seated and they let us look at the menu without telling us that most of the items on the menu were not available after a while we have decided to get a few items when the waiter came, we told him the menu items we decided to get he said it is not available simplest as biryani and crab curry and apam he claims they were all sold out so we decided to get plane rice with mixed vegetables as there were no other rice options available And a mango fish curry it tasted good to be honest but the fish curry was $17 it literally had four small pieces of fish, and the most of it was just gravy. It’s like we had to go fishing inside there to find the actual fish. Plus, the waiter Seemed completely lost when I’m having conversations to him about what are available at not available he’s only telling me what’s not available after I tell him what I want. nevertheless, I have decided never to try this place aging for dinner as I can see, they have nothing I want or like during the dinner time as it seems, they only cook in the morning so if you want something good I guess you have to go during lunch which is not possible for many people I don’t see the point of it being open till 3 AM. Also like to add The food was a bit expensive for what I got which I would not mind if it had more...

The kalyana biriyani was so good both in taste and portion. That’s the only reason I gave atleast 2 stars and definitely that deserves appreciation. However the overall experience and customer service was horrible. When we reached we were asked to wait for 5 min and even after 15 min (there were minimum 3-4 free tables), they didn’t allocate a seat for us and they took people who came after us which is still fine. We ordered a hot and sour soup & the server on shift was hesitant to take order and informed us it will take 20-25 min which was ok for us. Then he came after 10 min to take remaining order. We ordered 2 kalyana biriyani and a tea(which I have asked to serve at end). We got soup and it was literally soya sauce. We informed the server as we couldn’t drink it (it was too salty and a weird taste) and he responded he will ask kitchen and come back. He never came back and after that, he didn’t face us, just ignored our table. Also when we finished and called them to ask for tea, they bought us bill. The guy who bought bill was decent and when we mentioned these concerns, he took off tea (which was not served) and soup. And also apologized. I just added tip for him which I am not sure will reach him. There is a high urgency to improve their customer service. And train staff to address customer complaints. Though the kalyana biriyani was good, overall experience left us so disappointed and there were multiple hairs in their menu(pic attached) which is not a good sign for a restaurant.
