For anyone who loves chocolate and you're in Toronto, Soma should be your heaven. I've often gone to the Distillery District store and loved watching them make chocolate there. With their King St location, you have a gorgeous open space just filled completely with amazing chocolates, cookies, treats, ice cream, and incredible drinks. Yes they have ice cream and drinks too!
To say I have a slight obsession with Soma might be an understatement. I have yet to try something I did not love. Their toffee squares are the best cookies I've had around the world.. with their crispy crust and soft chewy toffee like interior. Its like chocolate chip cookie on crack. They have large chunks of great chocolate, a sprinkle of salt to enhance the sweetness, and nuts too. Just... amazing.
In the winter, I've been coming here to get a hot chocolate... it's the authentic one that haunts your dreams. A thick rich pure chocolately drink that you only wish you discovered as a kid. Nothing is quite like it in Toronto and I've tried a lot! If you can handle the heat, as for the Mayan spice... warning, it can a serious kick with the cayenne.
As for the summers... I'm hoping to come back over and over again for their ice cream. I tried their special batch for Sabai Sabai roasted coconut and damn. WOW... just perfect.
I recommend for anyone with a slight or mildest sweet tooth to come here and indulge with the best of what Toronto has to offer. Your tastebuds will never...
Read moreDuring a family visit to the Christmas Market in the Distillery District in Toronto, we stumbled upon SOMA Chocolatemaker, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the attention to detail and the incredible design of their chocolate creations. Every piece seemed like a work of art, carefully crafted to delight both the eyes and the taste buds.
What made us fall in love even more was their adorable mascot, Enzo the chipmunk. Naturally, having a family connection to the name “Enzo,” we couldn’t resist going back to pick up their “Enzo Watch the Stars” dark chocolate bark. It’s not just a treat—it’s an experience, blending rich, velvety dark chocolate with a whimsical charm that reflects the heart of SOMA.
The staff at SOMA were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience even sweeter. They were patient and attentive, taking the time to explain the different chocolates and helping us find the perfect treats. Our boys had a blast choosing their chocolates and were completely enthralled with the pop rocks candy chocolate. It was so fun watching their faces light up as the candy crackled and popped!
SOMA Chocolatemaker is a must-visit spot, especially if you’re in the Distillery District during the holidays. It’s not just chocolate—it’s magic wrapped up in a beautifully designed package, delivered with warmth and care. We’re already looking forward to...

What's the best way to impress a Belgium tourist than to visit Toronto's very own chocolatier? To compete Soma head-to-head with a native chocolate lover spoiled by world's greatest brands. Yes. That's the plan. Besides I haven't visited this new location before, so he really had no choice.
What's super cool is that chocolates come is a variety of never-seen-before flavours like: Thai Sticks - "like a bowl of Thai coconut soup!" Vietnamese Coffee Truffle - "100% Arcana spiked with coffee layered on a milky-sweet ganache" Douglas Fir - "A fruity chocolate from the Dominican Republic infused with the natural oils of the Douglas Fir tree. Think of eating chocolate in the middle of a Canadian Pine forest."
I totally think Soma represents the diversity we have in Toronto by fusing their favourite flavours into chocolates!
5 stars for the chocolates 5 stars for the chocolatiers 5 stars for the beautiful beautiful shop and its King Street location. 4 stars for the coffee! Good but pricey.
3 stars for the cashiers/the faces of the shop. Argh. So Toronto!
The chocolate-making action is actually in the back. The beautiful view of the street (and your sitting area) is in the front. Personally I think it's a little dim to work in the back like this! The only customers that can see them are the customers visiting...
