I visited Silent H in March for my boyfriend’s birthday. I’m writing this now because I’ve been away on a trip for the past few months. I reserved the earliest seating at 5 pm since we had plans to watch the Raptors game after dinner. We arrived at 5:20 but called ahead to inform them we’d be late.
After ordering, our drinks and appetizer (guacamole) arrived at 5:48. We finished the guacamole quickly and then waited for our main courses. My boyfriend, being sweet and non-confrontational, convinced me to wait patiently, thinking the kitchen might be busy. However, there was only one other table occupied when we arrived, and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. I didn’t want to make him uncomfortable on his special day, so I waited.
I became frustrated when the table next to us, seated after us, received their mains, which were the same dishes we ordered. The restaurant was still half-empty. By then, 35 minutes had passed since we finished our appetizer, and no server had checked on us. I finally called a different server over, who said she had been reassigned to our table and was unaware of our order. She never introduced herself or checked on us. It’s not the customer's responsibility to remind the restaurant of their order or manage the servers.
She repunched our order, and the food arrived in 5 minutes at 6:28 pm. The dishes were obviously not freshly made within that short time period. We had waited nearly an hour after ordering to eat our mains. The food was cold and soggy, very clearly not freshly made. It tasted like it had been sitting out and forgotten. We had no time to complain as the Raptors game started at 7 pm, so we ate quickly. There was no time for dessert. I paid the bill, and we left at 6:49 pm, already late for the game and with no time to buy drinks or snacks beforehand.
This was a terrible experience. If I could, I would give 0 stars. I spent hours finding a nice restaurant that served tacos because my boyfriend loves them. I was excited for him to try this place, but it was a huge disappointment and a waste of money. Definitely one of my biggest regrets this year. The attached pictures have timestamp proof...
Read moreChanging my review from 1 star to 4 stars. The manager Christiana got in touch after bad experience on NYE and invited us to return and gave us a gift card. The second experience was like day and night with the first one. Food was great, came fast and drinks were good. Staff also made sure everything was good. Thank you.
*original 1 star review: We had a reservation for New Year Evening at 10pm. When we arrived, they told us to wait 5 minutes since they were cleaning our tables.
5mins passed and they told us to wait at the bar, we were 2 people and only 1 chair available. 10:15: They told us they needed more time, so we paid for 2 drinks to kill time.
We finally got our table at 10:45pm. Then the server told us 1/3 of the appetizer option was out and 1/2 of dessert option was out.
Appetizer and salad was good. Then at 11:30pm (we haven’t received our main course yet) they increased the music so loud it was impossible to talk, we literally had to use the note app on our phone to communicate with server.
We got our main course after midnight, they arrived 15 min apart. Salmon was good but steak was diffidently not cooked enough. We sat beside each other and we couldn’t talk at all because of the music. And same for the 2 other couples around us that arrived at the same time as us.
Very unpleasant having a dinner that you can’t talk with your spouse.
Us and the 2 couples sitting near us took our dessert to go because of the music and left as soon as we could.
It was a bad experience. The restaurant covered the 2 drinks we had but we were fully charged for NYE dinner at $90 each. We tipped poorly.
Then at 2:26am I got a email from Open Table saying Silent H marked my reservation as a “no show”. Which make me think they did so because they tried to collect the “no show fee” because we didn’t tip them enough.
Servers and busboys did their best but the experience was ruined when the music was way too loud to talk at all. The music wouldn’t have been an issue if our reservation...
Read moreA group of us came to Silent H for the first time on Friday and I was beyond impressed! I usually study the menu before coming in to know exactly what I’m going to order, look up the reviews on Google and instagram but the moment we’ve sat down our server Tyler welcomed us to the restaurant and walked us through the journey. He’s shared the story if Silent H, pointed out details like hand made menu with a little golden bee from collaboration with Patron, art on the walls but most importantly, story behind every dish and drink and chef coming all the way from Mexico 🇲🇽 to implement his ideas into an authentic menu we order from.
Tyler introduced us to the list of cocktails so we’ve ordered Jungle Juice Cleanse (what an experience!) that comes with strawberry foam on an oyster shell and candied ginger. We’ve had a few rounds of Lil Picantes (a must try!), but my favourite was Chai Tai cocktail (if you like rum and coconut, this is your new favourite drink).
For food, we’ve got a few food items to share including guacamole 🥑, ESQUITES SIN ELOTE (which is vegetables on grill under tajín mayo that is the most delicious thing I’ve ever tried, I’m craving it ever since and can’t wait to come back to order it again), we’ve also ordered TACOS OLIVADOS DE CAMARÓN that has a special story and just melts in your mouth.
Everything gets 5 stars amazing service (Tyler was so knowledgeable, confident and welcoming, it felt like we came to someone home as we’ve been checked on regularly). delicious food and drinks (special cocktails are a bit on a pricier side but they have a selection of wine and beer and other cocktails that are as good). Fabulous interior (wait until you see green marble in the bathroom)
Can’t wait to come back and thank you for the staff for making this experience so...
