We have had 2 private parties at this venue and had a great time on both occassions. Here are my thoughts on food, service and atmo:
The food is amazing!! Price is reasonable, the portions are generous and the taste is great! Go for the noodles and meat dishes (General Tao, etc.) with an order of fried rice if you need it. Singapore vermicelli is a must!
We had private events, so your service might experience might vary, but we had a great experience! First time we visited, there were 2 bartenders who also served the food we ordered, second time there was only one (Oct 31, Jays playoff game night). I must say that on the second visit, Abi really did a great job. He was on the bar and also serving food throughout the evening. On top of that, when I asked him for one drink for the end of the night, he made me one of the best Old Fashioned cocktails I've had in a while. He took the time to prep the glass, properly mix and serve the drink. Are you in a hurry? Order a rum and coke. Want to enjoy your drink, ask for the Old Fahioned and say you have time to wait. Drink prices are very reasonable to boot! The Manhatten was also a hit, and I know everyone enjoyed their cocktails that night!
The atmosphere is a fun vibe with total control given to the crowd. You pick the songs, set the volume and have at it. There's a drum set for the brave to wail away on and the bartender will even throw on some some smoke effects for the big songs, really adding to the party vibe.
If you are a serious karaoke singer, the sing-along vibe for many songs may not be what you are looking for, but if you looking for a fun sing-along night with good food and drinks, check this place out, it's definitely worth it. If you want to have a private party, give them a call, they did a great job matching our needs for timing...
Read moreOver half of the bar staff serving us were brand new. Like I'm almost certain it was their first day ever serving alcohol. (He didn't know what Jaeger was) Which would be somewhat acceptable if it wasn't an event that they accidentally double booked us for and moved the date on us. One of three bartenders that knew what they're doing is a ridiculous ratio. And the only experienced bartender spent the second half of the night VERY OBVIOUSLY deleting the whole karaoke song queue for a song that he wanted to sing by himself or sing with his friends while his buddy played drums which was patently ridiculous. The final half hour of the evening the seemingly drunk staff and their friends butted in on our event which I found totally unacceptable. If there are two mics and someone grabs one it's not an invitation for some random dude who knows the bartender to join in.
The library is pretty limited for English speakers, the touch screen system is difficult and confusing, and if you select YouTube options it deletes the whole queue. Every menu item during a group event is required to be ordered with a full serving of not very good french fries. If you want food from dine and dim (which IS amazing food) you have to leave and get it yourself from downstairs. The dumplings were good but I would rather not pay for a half pound of mediocre fries.
It's too bad because the sound system works well. The mics function, the smoke machine and the lighting is fun, the layout and the environment of the upstairs is great. Bathrooms are clean, the screens are in all the right places. This place has potential but the staff and their narcissism really tanked...
Read moreI booked Tenjin for my 40th birthday this past weekend, and had a fantastic time. The owners were great - responded quickly by e-mail and were easy to make arrangements with leading up to the party.
On the night of the party, one small snag which didn't bother us much was that they mixed up the time and thought we were coming later; however, the owner helped us out right away and served and setup the bar area quickly and called in a bartender who came shortly. After this, the night went very smoothly and we were very happy.
The setup for karaoke was great - easy to search, choose and add songs to a playlist; mics were great and there are several screens throughout the main area. Super fun for us as a private party with great lighting, decor and a smoke machine.
Tang really kept the energy up, joining us to sing and getting on the drumset. drinks were delicious, especially the tea-based martini they treated me to as the birthday girl.
Food was good - I only took off 1 star for not having as much variety to order for our large group, mainly a number of platters which all come with fries.
The staff was all really lovely, accommodating (even allowing us to keep singing and pushing the DJ set back as the group was really enjoying themselves), helpful, fun and friendly.
It was a great spot for a private event, and I will be happy to come back for regular karaoke nights - happy to have this spot in...
