Food was absolutely great-tasting - kudos to the kitchen, portion size can improve vs competitors, atmosphere was so-so - smelly washrooms & annoying background playlist, but waiting service was bad.
Went on a Saturday afternoon for a boodle feast for 4. While the food was being laid on the banana leaf, we asked if they provide complimentary soup (we just wanted the broth, nothing else), they said no. We asked if they can add more ensalada (chopped tomatoes &onions) which was a measly serving on the grilled fish, server said she'll ask the kitchen. We also asked for 2 small chillis (siling labuyo) for the soy sauce and again, was told she'll ask the kitchen. We asked for bagoong (shrimp paste) for the steamed okra, server replied with, "Ay, sa kare kare lang po yon" (That's just for the kare kare). FYI, the additional ensalada and chilli didn't arrive nor did she bother to let us know what the kitchen decided. This restaurant is a joke! These minor things matter to diners but seems like it matters more to them in the sense such requests will compromise their profit margin. No flexibility and wiggle room for such customer service.
Felt like this place can nickel and dime you if they could for the little things you ask for. Reminds me of the kind of service you get from some restaurants in Manila, penny-pinching requests. Such a shame they practice the same here in Toronto.
The boodle feast was good especially their bestseller dessert, the ube cheesecake. I recommend you just order the dessert to-go but don't bother dining in. You can get the same, if not better spread, with excellent service from other Filipino restaurants in the GTA who has adopted a more updated and westernized approach to customer service. The lame service really left a bad impression that made us question if tipping was even necessary. Will never go back to...
Read moreI called the number on Google for the North York location. The employee confirmed my order both times as I called the second time to add another order. At no point in time, the employee mentioned that the number I called was the Downtown location. When I arrived at the North York location, they said there is a glitch with Google and the downtown location number is linked to the North York location. After 40 minutes of extra driving on Fathers Day, the employee at the Downtown location accused me of confirming the wrong location since they knew about the glitch for months and it’s protocol for their employees to answer the phone as “Downtown Tinuno”, and confirm the location with the customer. When in fact, they failed to mention anything about the location during the calls and they put it on me, the customer. They told me to wait to speak to the employee who answered the calls since he is on break. I do not have time to speak with the employees and correct their mistakes. I also do not have time to drive extra 1.5 hours there and back for a mistake that they cannot seem to accept. I am not coming here again. Utterly...
Read moreWe always come here for their Kamayan Feast (also known as "Boodle Fight"). This is the Filipino way of eating using only your fingers instead of a fork/spoon or a chopsticks. Everyone that I bring here (non-Filipinos or Filipinos alike) really enjoyed this way of eating.
So kamayan is basically a communal feast where the food is laid out on a bed of banana leaves instead of plates and your eating utensils are your fingers.
The food consists of unlimited garlic rice, seafood (grilled shrimp/squid/milkfish/tilapia, steamed mussels) meat (pork belly and bbq pork skewer), veggies (boiled okra/eggplant), mango salad and orange slices for dessert.
The delicious food is full of Filipino flavours - salty, sweet and sour and price per person is reasonable.
Staff are very nice and friendly and are always there to provide you with another serving of the garlic rice.
Place is small but cozy and coming on a weekday means avoiding the craziness on a weekend visit.
If you want to try ultimate finger food experience and enjoy a beautiful Filipino tradition, then Tinuno is the...
