I have never rated any restaurant or service 1 star but Toro Toro was the worst experience I have ever had, the staff were incredibly rude and I will never go back. I went with my friend and two of us ordered the box which cost $100+ after tips. Because i wear Invisalign and I have a mild gum disease, so I needed to brush my teeth after every meal and I went to their washroom after food. I was in the washroom for a long time (in total maybe 15-20 mins in total) as I needed to use Waterpik then floss and then brush and everything, the staff knocked door once in the middle and I opened door saying I need 5 mins more as I was brushing teeth. Then I closed my door. After awhile I heard so loudly pounding on my door it almost gave me a heart-attack. It was not a normal loud knock, it was like you feel there was an earthquake and someone wants you out so you do not die. I was so shocked my heart was racing like crazy the knock continued to maybe 10 seconds long. Then I opened the door and there it was maybe 3 or 4 staff members out of the door (no customer waiting) looking at me with very despite faces. I was still holding my brush in my hand but I still came out as I felt I had no choice. They were looking at me rolling theirs eyes at me and discussing with each other about me. We left right away.

When I ordered I had to pay right away with tips before I have my food, even though there was no server ordering for me nor delivering my food. The whole restaurant can serve maybe 15-20 people but only 1 guest washroom (I forgot if they have another one for other gender). And when your food is ready no one will call you or let you know, we waited for 30 mins for the box and only when I went to check the counter we found out our food was ready long time ago. I really don’t know what the tips were for? I guess they wanted more tables here so the tables here are very very small, we ordered the box so we had to put all our other stuff (bubble tea, dipping sauce caps, bags, jackets) on the floor. Then the staff were the rudest and most impolite I have ever seen. The only upside was the food was good, but not that great, you can have far cheaper options elsewhere rather than here, paying the most expensive to be treated the worst. Worst...

This is our third time ordering the signature platter for takeout which in our opinion is their best value and quality for money. You get 50 pcs for $88 with the caveat being platter orders can only be placed over the phone or via website and must be picked up in person. This process was painless as we called to preorder on a weeknight and pickup was smooth as well at 4pm on Valentine’s Day. Last time when we ordered for New Year’s Eve, the shop was much busier and our order was not ready until one hour later than they had initially quoted. Beware of that during high volume holidays and plan accordingly, but don’t let that deter you from ordering altogether.

When you pick up your order, you will be handed a heavyweight black paper bag containing your sushi platter and usual condiments of soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger. The main course is beautifully presented in a sleek black box sealed with a red logo sticker. Even the condiments are well-packaged and have the same sleek look as the platter itself. It’s certainly a beautiful and more eco-friendly alternative to the usual plastic party tray, especially if you’re ever looking for a fancy potluck contribution.

Upon opening the box, you’ll notice everything is beautifully arranged with sprinklings of colourful flowers among the usual space filler of shredded daikon. A variety of maki, nigiri, sashimi, and oshizushi (pressed sushi) offers something to suit everyone’s taste. All the fish was super fresh and high quality but standouts for us were the red tuna nigiri topped with gold flake, and the fresh scallop nigiri. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was how much we enjoyed the maki rolls given the fact that we are normally not huge fans of rolls.

The fish/filling-to-rice ratio is on point for the maki and nigiri and you never feel overwhelmed by rice here. Nigiri and maki are also well-constructed and don’t fall apart immediately upon touching soy sauce. The unagi (eel) nigiri have improved this time in taste and texture but for some reason, the pressed sushi was not as well constructed as before and were unfortunately prone to falling apart. Nonetheless they still tasted good, and overall we would definitely order takeout from Toro Toro again for...

The food was delicious, it’s one of my favorite sushi spots and I was happy they opened a spot closer to me so I don’t have to go to Vaughan. It’s my favorite sushi spot ever.

This place is in a historical building so the outside looks really nice, the inside is newly renovated and everything is clean.

The service? Needs improvement. I was informed that the tasting box would take 15 minutes but it took 30 minutes while everyone else got their orders which is fair because we ordered a big box so I know it will take longer to prepare. However, we were waiting to eat inside, even though we came first other people got their food first and were able to take the tables before we did. It’s first come first serve, but some people are not waiting in the waiting area, but they stand and wait infront of other people eating - I don’t think this atmosphere is very engaging or friendly because it’s pressuring the people who are eating to eat faster.

I recommend a line or staff coordination at least to help out with who came first. We were waiting for our food at the waiting area and didn’t want to be disrespectful to other guests by waiting infront of them while they’re eating. When I asked the staff if there was any way for her to coordinate the table for us since our food wasn’t here yet even though they said 15 minutes, she said it was first come first serve. Again, understandable, but waiting 30 mins for the food without any updates (while they were drinking bubble tea on the floor) and having to wait another 30 minutes for a table is too much for us.

I hope next time I come back I’ll get a...
