Well, I want to support our Eataly in Toronto, however I must be honest regarding our lunch experience today. We were a party of 7, 2 small children. One couple from Australia who wanted so much to visit our Eataly. We had lunch reservations at Trattoria Milano. Once seated the ho hum service began. It was very confusing to us because once seated, usually a server comes to introduce themselves and asks if anyone would like water or a beverage of some type. That didn’t happen, we waited, and waited. Finally someone appears. Brought menus, then we waited and waited and I finally asked if someone would bring water. Water was delivered. Then sparkling bottles delivered, we had not asked for sparkling water but we were happy to have water. Then we waited another 20 minutes for someone to come take an order. Children were getting fidgety now. I ask for bread please so that we could Munch on something. Then we waited for the order to finally be taken.

Our appetizers arrived, yay!

Then we waited and waited until after 20 minutes I asked if our mains were coming. No, the kitchen had not received the orders for our mains. Waited another 40 minutes for food! Food was great as always, but the service was so so so disorganized and completely incompetent. Our table was ignored, only when prompted did we have any service. What has happened to the service you promise? Sad… May have to pass on Eataly, not so interested in being ignored as a...

A beautiful restaurant that needs a lift in every way.

Environment: 9/10. Gorgeous restaurant set in the back of the second floor of Eataly. Chairs are comfortable and ambiance is warm and inviting. Was a little difficult to find… had to ask around.

Food: 5/10. We tried a bunch of items of the dish… and boy, it wasn’t the most exciting food. Small plates for hefty prices. And, being located in the Yorkville area with a number of Toronto’s best Italian restaurants, unfortunately- Trattoria Milano just doesn’t measure up. If I blindfolded my date, she would’ve thought we were at Scadabush… it was sad.

The menu is hard to understand… even the servers thought so. Reaching a little too hard in my opinion.

Service: 2/10. Being at one of the most empty restaurants in the city with as much staff as they had, it was the slowest service we’ve had in a long time. Servers were not attentive. We were asked how our first bites were after plates were done. Not to mention, I had to flag a server down because I discovered hair in my pasta. They were gracious and quick to have someone address it - but it still took 20 minutes later to have a new pasta in front of me. I ate by myself after… it was weird.

Overall, this place just doesn’t measure up and was disappointing. The Valet parking is only for 2 hours of validation. So, we ended up having to pay for parking because the meal took so long (their service was REALLY slow). Would I ever...

tone for the evening, which only went downhill from there.

The service was horrendous. Cups were never refilled with water, and no water jugs were provided for us to refill them ourselves. Asked for salt and pepper numerous times to no avail. It felt like we were being ignored despite having a large group and what should have been a celebratory atmosphere.

Charging for old and stale bread is always a bad sign, and unfortunately, this place does exactly that.

I ordered the saffron rice risotto, which was an absolute disgrace. The portion was shockingly small – barely two teaspoons of risotto. For such a high price, this was unacceptable. Many in our group faced similar issues with portion sizes, and since we were unaware the portions would be so small, we couldn’t order more food due to the early cut-off. It was humiliating to sit at a $750 table where people were still hungry.

Adding insult to injury, a 20% tip was automatically imposed on the bill despite the abysmal service. Had we been informed of the portion sizes, we would have needed to order 2-3 dishes per person, which would have driven the bill to over $2,000 for food that didn’t justify the price.

This was an outrageous experience – overpriced, poorly managed, and lacking even the basics of good...

So excited I got to finally try this place. On the second floor of Eataly and tucked away in the corner it could be easy to miss. From start to finish it was perfection. The wine pairing from their sommelier Antonello was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about wine, region and everything was fantastic. Apps: Steak tartare was presented looking a bit like ground beef but it was so delicious. The salami misto came with a candied mustard jelly that was so interesting. Mains: the “elephant ear” was a huge bone in veal steak which was done exactly the way I had in Milan. Perfectly salted, crispy on the outside and tender the middle. A must try! The 40 egg pasta was so delicious and filling. Milanese saffron risotto was also perfect. Dessert: the tiramisu served in a small glass container. It was creamy and had the perfect balance of sweetness and espresso. Will be back again!

The space feels like the perfect blend of intimate and spacious. It’s fairly dim inside (mostly taking in natural day lighting from the north-facing windows), and feels like the dining room is tucked away from the hustle of Bay St. just outside. The decor is elegant and refined, but warm and not pretentious. Our server greeted us as soon as we sat at our table and brought some water. I tried the Don Vittorio cocktail. It tasted well balanced, not too sweet, with a nice smokiness from the mezcal. I had the Tagliatelle Con Ragù Di Coniglio for my main. The pasta was cooked al dente. At first, the dish tasted a bit restrained/ bland. The saltiness kind of grew on me as I kept eating. I think it left me a bit hungry still in terms of the portion as well. Overall, my experience here was pretty good and I’d come back myself to try their other dishes and drinks.
