I haven't visited Gerrard Square in quite some time but I've dropped by a few times in recent months. Of course I checked out the food court but nothing really drew my interest except Tropical Joe's. However it wasn't until my most recent visit that I decided to give Tropical Joe's a try as I had forgotten to eat breakfast and lunch that day. Long story short, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and Tropical Joe's alone is enough to convince me to frequent Gerrard Square more in the future.
I ordered the regular jerk chicken instead of the large which is fortunate because they really pack the food in the container. Remember how I said I didn't eat before coming here? Well given how hungry I was I struggled a bit finishing the food so that might give you an idea of how much food they pack into the container. In terms of taste, the chicken was actually spicy and they were very generous with the yummy gravy which is a plus for me as I like my food saucy. I've had jerk chicken where the chicken was completely bland so the fact that the chicken here actually had flavour and wasn't dry was a surprise for me. Also note that the jerk chicken is cut into small pieces with no bones so if you want a bone-in piece of chicken you may be out of luck here.
All in all, I was very happy with the food here and it was a much better experience than I had at a larger jerk chicken restaurant not too far away. I will definitely use this as an excuse to visit Gerrard Square more in the future and hope to try out some of their other offerings. Recommend giving it a try if...

On Saturday May 4 at around 1:25 pm . I asked to have channa on my jerk chicken meal and they said it cost 2 dollars and i had no problem, it was a misunderstanding because i also wanted potatoes and slaw and also it was loud at the food court . And when i went back the counter to ask for the channa that i haven’t received on my meal i asked the staff: a lady with glasses who was serving at the time had to blame me for not mentioning and i clearly have asked her . I asked her if i can bring my meal to add on top she says they cannot add the channa on a meal that has been served. And then she resolves the situation by recommending me to buy the channa separately for 6.99.
I leave hopelessly not sure if this is real or not but Then i go back to ask for the manager at the counter and the gentleman wearing yellow responds back and i told him the scenario and then He goes like “ No brother, i heard you say no you don’t want the channa!! And at that point it was no point in arguing..
why would i say no trying to save pennies and all i want is a couple spoons of the chick peas but the staff want to upsell like they own the business and could say or do whatever they want. All i wanted was to enjoy the meal and have a peace of mind but unfortunately there’s gotta be unprofessional people. Sad part this falls under a place with the food tastes amazing and the owner of the place is incredible but unfortunately some...

November 30, 2021 In Gerrard Square today doing a bit of Christmas shopping and as soon as I saw Tropical Joe's in the food court, I knew exactly where I would be having my lunch.
Opted for the large jerk chicken dinner with curried potatoes, rice and peas and coleslaw. Hard to tell by the photo, but there really is rice and peas underneath all that chicken!
The food servers are wonderful and thank God for that cool coleslaw!
October 22, 2021 Not often in this little mall (Gerrard Square), and when I am, I'm never in this little food court. Today, for some reason, I was here at lunchtime and Tropical Joe's was a name I didn't recognize.
Tried the large jerk pork dinner. It came with rice and peas, curried potatoes and a very small side of coleslaw.
Man - it was deelish!!
Underneath that pile of meat is a full serving+ of the rice. Didn't even need the coleslaw other than as a cooling factor. The dinner was wonderfully spiced AND spicy! A return visit is...
