A BIT MIXED.
I went here for a mid week dinner with my husband. Being vegetarian and living just up the street we were excited to try this place when I saw it on Google maps. I’ve walked past it nearly every day without knowing it’s there because it’s not well signposted and you access it through Evergreen Thai restaurant next door which is a bit confusing.
We shared: H6 Tea tree mushroom fragrant spicy pot, H13 Braised cordyceps flower and lily with snow peas and H15 King oyster mushroom wraps.
H15 King oyster mushroom wraps was by far our favourite item. They were presented to mimic peking duck. The wraps were cold which threw me off a bit at first because I was expecting them to be a bit warm but once filled with the cucumber, onion and mushroom filling they were delicious. I would have really liked a bigger portion of the mushrooms because we had quite a lot of cucumber, onion and wraps left over once the mushrooms were gone.
H13 Braised cordyceps flower and lily with snow peas was simple and tasted very fresh. There was a lovely hint of ginger and something we couldn’t place (it had the texture of a roasted chestnut) that added a nice bit of bite.
H6 Tea tree mushroom fragrant spicy pot was definitely our least favourite. The bowl it came in was huge and it looked very impressive when it arrived on the table but about half of the dish was inedible dried chilis and other dried spices (what seemed like whole sichuan pepper and these dried woody stalks we couldn’t identify) that made it really hard to eat. You’d get a mouthful of whole pepper and it was really overpowering so we ended up picking out all the dried chilis and scraping off all the other dried bits because they just weren’t pleasant. The parts of the dish you could eat, the cauliflower, potato, pepper and celery and especially the rice cakes, were really tasty and overall the dish had a nice spicy flavour. In our opinion this has the potential to be amazing if only they removed all the inedible dried chilis and ground the spices into a proper sauce. The bowl might look half as big but it would be significantly more enjoyable.
We were given tea when we arrived which was a nice touch but we weren’t offered any other drinks (not even water) during our meal and we weren’t offered dessert.
Overall I’m glad we tried it. We experienced some tasty flavours and unusual ingredients like lotus root and rice cakes that we’ve never had before but we probably...
Read moreVegedelight is a charming vegetarian Chinese restaurant that truly stands out for its innovative and flavorful offerings. As a vegetarian establishment, it excels in showcasing mushrooms, which play a prominent role in many of its dishes. The menu features a variety of delightful options, but the Lion’s Mane skewers are particularly noteworthy. These skewers are wonderfully prepared, presenting a meaty texture and umami-rich flavor that is sure to impress even non-vegetarians.
Another highlight is the sauerkraut rice noodles with mushrooms. This dish brilliantly combines the tanginess of sauerkraut with the earthiness of mushrooms, creating a unique and satisfying meal that is both hearty and refreshing. The flavors blend seamlessly, making it one of the standout items on the menu.
The ambiance of Vegedelight complements the dining experience perfectly, and I found the overall quality to be just as good as the uptown location, which has been a favourite for many. The attention to detail in both taste and presentation is evident, and it makes every dish feel special.
To accompany your meal, the tea selection is nothing short of delightful. The aromatic blend of rose, goji berries, green tea, and rice offers a fragrant and refreshing beverage that pairs beautifully with the food. It adds a calming touch to the dining experience and enhances the overall enjoyment of the meal.

Read moreStumbled into this little gem on my first day in Toronto and it blew me away-- and for the record, I am not a vegetarian. Service was polite and natural and the timing of the food was very prompt. But what made it truly special was the food itself.
★ H6. 茶樹菇麻辣香鍋 | Tea Tree Mushroom Fragrant Spicy Pot is a dish without any Western comparison. There was a prominent Ma 麻, or numbing sensation, and La 辣, hotness, but neither overwhelmed the palate despite my servers consternation due to my apparent whiteness. However, in stark contrast to these strong elements were the uniquely gentle floral, citrus, and herbal notes from the tea spice. And before your palate can become acclimated to the seasonings, the combination of ingredients from the crispy lotus root, to the stachy potato, to the tender cabbage keeps one guessing what texture and base flavor will be next. And each absorbs the spices differently: while the mushrooms bring a tea punch and the next bite of celery cools everything back down and refreshes the senses.
In short, I am in love. And with the portion, that love...
