Unwelcoming and disappointing – not dog-friendly and poor customer service. My sister and I stopped by Coffee Abode yesterday morning while walking our dog. The café looks modern and stylish, but the service was surprisingly cold and lacking in basic hospitality. There was no sign saying dogs weren’t allowed, but based on our recent experiences in Vancouver, we assumed they probably weren’t welcome indoors. So we planned for one of us to go inside and order, while the other stayed with our dog in the outdoor seating area. Before we could do that, a staff member came out and told us that dogs weren’t allowed even in the outdoor area. That was already disappointing, but we decided to just get takeout and wait on the sidewalk. To our surprise, the staff member told us that wasn’t allowed either — even though the sidewalk is public space and not part of the café. The whole experience left us feeling very unwelcome. Vancouver has been unexpectedly unfriendly to dogs overall, which doesn’t match the warm, kind image many people associate with Canada. Compared to where we live near Seattle, it felt like a big step backward — in Washington, dogs are generally welcome in outdoor spaces unless clearly stated otherwise, and staff are usually courteous and respectful when explaining rules. At Coffee Abode, despite the trendy look, the service felt rigid and impersonal — definitely not a place we’d return to.

If you're a brunch-er like I am....you might wanna skip this place. If you're not and you just want some coffee and eggs then check it out. The space, atmosphere and vibe is like something in between a Denny's and a cafeteria. The service is like a Denny's if it were hungover...slightly rusty and slow. The food is ...well....trying. My coffee was served in a dirty cup which was not a good start, but the actually coffee was not terrible considering it was house. I ordered the Sausage and Biscuit. So, here's the deal...if you're going to name a dish and it's one of those that has the ingredient in the name...you might want to make sure that the ingredient is announced and present in the meal, and not just merely stirred in with the gravy....bit of a rip off and disappointment, as I was looking forward to the sausage and just got mostly gravy. I wanted my egg done medium it was hard and the biscuit was very dry. Anyway...moving on. The French toast was ok but I couldn't figure out what the goo was, that it was decorated with, and its purpose (see pic.) The service was ...well....extremely forgettable. That was about it.

My second time here! ABODE is located right under the Blue Horizon Hotel and always neat and clean. I like their strong orange color in their restaurant. They provide their quality pork from GELDERMAN FARMS, seafood from OCEAN WISE, and coffee from SALT SPRING COFFEE. The servers are always welcome and proficient in what they do. The atmosphere is really nice and you enjoy spending time there. 🍳 Not many options for breakfast. Yet you’ll like all their brunch menu. Try the classic eggs benny & Tomato-Spinach benny. ☕️ The coffee is generally good, but average. In general, you have to go to ABODE and you’ll love everything!👌

Walking down the west end of Robson it's easily the most attractive patio in the late evening in June. The smiling waitress with an Australian accent was friendly. The food... oh the food is probably the worst I've had in a really long time... the $7 side salad was good- it had a nice dressing, not too heavy. The $12 chicken wings were your usual dried out tiny wings at a lot of terrible pubs, just awful. The $12 mega veg 'hand-held' came on two pieces of bread. The portabello mushroom, red pepper and spinach was good on its own with white bean paste- but the entire thing was ruined by a nasty ranch-style spread in between the vegetables and the white bean paste. Took me a long time to scrape that ranch sauce off. I paid an extra $2 for an asparagus soup which I was excited about. The flavor was really odd - overpowering basil and cilantro (two flavors I love) but I ate it anyway because it's probably good for me. The grey cod was good, after you remove the super thick deep fried beer batter reeking of old oil. It did not look appetizing on the plate. Awful, awful, awful. There are franchise restaurants that serve food better than this! Gross!!! I wrote this review to warn people to stay away- we mentioned the wings were awful- the waitress didn't know what to do about that, so she did nothing. Pathetic. I thought about what Gordon Ramsay would say if he bit into any of this food, then I thought about all these amazing gems along Robson I could have went to spend my money...
