My husband and I were in Yaletown today. We realized we had not visited Bake49 for almost 2 years. The shop had been renovated and sold different types of bread, pastries and beverages. We looked at the windows seeing all these delicious pastries. Wow they were very attractive and presented very well.
We bought three iced beverages: matcha latte, latte einspanner, and Dalgona latte. All of they tasted excellent. Dalgona latte had the special Dalgona sugar to go with the latte. It tasted amazing that we never found it elsewhere. The latte einspanner was very unique that it had a lot of cream in it. If you don’t like cream or if you are a healthy coffee drinker, you don’t want to order this one. Matcha latte tasted great with strong matcha flavour. They did not cheap out on using ingredients.
We ordered a cube pastry with custard cream. Oh my goodness!! That was the best cube croissant with custard cream (which was not too sweet). It was crunchy outside and soft inside. We could NOT find it anywhere else in Greater Vancouver. Bake49 could make this high quality of pastry. Unbelievable! Blowing our mind! The ham and cheese croissant was the best one in Vancouver. Restaurants and bakeries in Lower Mainland sell a lot of ham and cheese croissant but this one used great ingredients and the cheese was not too greasy or salty. It was so creamy, rich and filling. Even though I had finished eating it, I wanted to eat it again and again!!! The fruit croissant was great. It was huge that we had to pack it home. It was like a dessert for us.
Overall, the quality, reasonable pricing, great customer service and presentation won these five stars from me!!! I would definitely go back and try other beverages,...

I stopped by @bakefortynine yesterday to try our their revamped menu.
Bake49 is a hidden little gem tucked away behind a window on Mainland St in Yaletown. They were well known for their pastries like cheese tarts and croissants. However, unfortunately, Bake49 no longer sells their famous cheese tarts, croissants, or puffs 😭
But, they may just be the best bagel spot in town now. Their line up of bagels include your classics like sesame and everything bagel. But also unique flavours like pretzel, almond, and red bean. They also have a selection of bagel sandwiches that look absolutely delicious.
I grabbed the honey walnut cream cheese bagel and a plain pretzel bagel to go. And let me tell you guys, I mean it when I say that was one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. Like, on par with the bagels in New York type of good.
I disassembled the cream cheese bagel once I got him to re-toast the sesame bagel that it came on. I also added some left over salmon and chicken breast that I had into it afterwards. And oh, my, god this thing was amazing. I’m seriously not exaggerating.
The shell of the bagel was really nice and crunchy, the inside was soft and chewy, and toasted sesame seeds added such a punch of flavour. The honey walnut cream cheese was also a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Made my plain chicken breast that I added in taste so much better.
I’m genuinely sad that they don’t make pastries anymore, but also elated that they now do bagels. Because Vancouver is definitely still quite lacking in bagelries.
Did you guys know that Bake49 is now a bagel shop?

Read moreLove their cheese tarts especially after warming them up a bit to make it much more savoury. Flakey crisp tart crust without being too flakey that it falls apart and not excessively buttered in flavour. Cheese filling is smooth and creamy with a hint of citrus sour to balance the richness.
The crumbly slightly dense shortcake-like cheesecake from Bake49, I prefer much more over the very eggy-custard type Uncle Tetsu over at Metrotown offers (albeit, at half the price). After adding Bake49’s strawberry compote to accompany the cake, it becomes extra delicious. It’s lijely also because a third of the inside of the cake consists of a layer of plain cream that it really has me comparing it to strawberry shortcakes. The cake is better when the cream layer inside doesn’t get too thick like my last purchase. My first one from them was a lot better though they’re both still good since the cream is light enough to not overwhelm the cheese flavours just that there is nearly not enough cheese content when that happens.
The cream puff is unexciting and like another review had mentioned, the cream tasted pretty standard. It didn’t taste like any sort of cream puff experience. Maybe better used to pair with a coffee drink, and even better, sold without the cream filling for such a purpose.
Have not yet given their soft serve a try.
Love it when they’re not all lined up, can stock on a full dozen tarts instead of the limit of 6...
