Worst burger experience ever ironically in a burger joint? Great drinks, sub par food and service.
Let me set the scene: A friend and I came in when it was practically empty (minus two tables that were finishing eating). My friend ordered a cheeseburger, substituted with avocado INSTEAD of cheese, but the menu does not clearly state what kind of patty or that it even has one. You’re meant to assume it’s a regular meat patty. Which, okay…somewhat fair? It also did not arrive without the cheese. It was there. Cheesy.
My friend kindly let the staff know that she was unaware of it being meat and asked for a new one and graciously gave them the *option to pay for the original. (This would have been fine if they hadn’t done what I’m about to explain.)
The remade burger arrived barren. Top pickle missing. Absolutely unappealing and low effort- the servers or the chefs did not include the correct first order mods: no cheese, sub avocado. It came out with cheese AGAIN and NO AVOCADO.
At this point my friend felt bad which is an embarrassment for the restaurant- i had to step in and explain the situation. The server was kind but she was obviously not pushing the chefs enough. As an ex-expeditor and server, lay it down thick and stand up for your guests otherwise you come across as incompetent and inexperienced as a server.
It arrived back with 4 thick pieces of hard avocado. (Pickle still mysteriously nonexistent….did y’all run out of pickles?) Cheese…still in there. At this point any sane person would be shaking their head. Remake the whole burger instead of slapping in the mod. Appalling. Server should have been aware.
My friend noted it tasted terrible.
And then the server came and said my friend should pay for the original. Uhhhh……..right. Did nobody see the amount of mistakes that were made?
Also, when we asked for two plates for our shared dessert, we got one plate and ONE spoon. I asked the other server for an additional spoon and she said “sure,” in this nonchalant tone with no urgency or anything. Okay, so it’s not a server issue, it’s a training issue.
Overall, an exemplary case study in poor hospitality and where to further improve training and kitchen skills. I’ve worked in high end and casual dining and this was notably bad. Guys what is...

On the Benz Burger Algorithm we'd rate this a 7.9 out of 10.
Burger bun was nice, solid. Looked like brioche, was not super soft to touch, but held nicely and tasted fresh.
Quality of meat was clean. Not sure if chuck, brisket, short-rib or a mix? I assume they use Intercity Packers or a similar meat wholesaler, and they do not grind it in-house, as you cannot get the burger slightly pink however, the taste was good, not over-salted and not overtly greasy. Probably a 4.5-5.5 oz patty. Was hard to tell, not quite smash style but not a thick patty, it fit the bun perfectly.
Presentation of the burger was clean, you can tell it was put together with care and not just thrown together.
Sauce and innards (condiments/toppings) were lovely. Fresh tomato. Fresh crispy onion fritters, a nice and not over powerful BBQ sauce and all in the perfect ratio.
Value was good considering what the competition charges for mediocre burgers. (Surprise, it's maybe a dollar or two less for their burgers than average bar burgers at some local spots here). $20 bucks gets you a decent size portion and fills you up.
Fun non alcoholic drinks too and a nice espresso machine and imported drinks add a fun twist to burgers when you're not in the mood to drink.
Finally, Patrick the bartender was a solid dude and they had a helpful server working in tandem.
Chill spot, nothing crazy but def good for yummy eats and...
Read moreThey're currently operating as a ghost kitchen, so you can order for pickup or takeout. I picked up my order and ate it at home about 30-45min later, and the burgers weren't soggy (pictures were taken once I arrived home).
My order:
Mushroom Lovers (w/ Onion Rings): my personal favourite. It's a juicy angus beef patty with sautéed mushrooms and bacon. The acidity and spiciness of the banana peppers & jalapeños (very generous portion) pairs so well together, as I don't like a very "meaty" burger. Onions rings were tasty and had onions in it, unlike some places that just use a very thin slice of onion and then coat it with a bunch of deep-fried powder/coating.
Bacon & Brie Burger (w/ Fries): Brie adds a nice texture and creamy flavour to it, and is an interesting choice of cheese as it’s my first time having it inside a burger.
Vegan Chocolate Cake: a tad bit dry, but maybe because it's vegan
Caesar Salad
Chocolate Chip Cookies: made fresh in house, and recommended for people that like their cookies soft, and on the under-baked side
These gourmet burgers are roughly $15/each, and is loaded with an abundant variety of toppings which is a plus. They also use a "Blaze Secret Sauce" in...
