Overall not great. We were excited to try this new neighborhood restaurant as we heard that the chef worked for Miku previously, we went for lunch at 11:30am and there was no wait. We had a hard time understanding the hostess, she had a hard time providing clarity. She was trying to offer tea and water while we were walking to our table before we even sat down. I had to ask her kindly what she was asking numerous times, all I heard was 3 tree. When we asked about registering our license plate for parking underground, she had a very difficult time communicating to us as well and she was confused. The service was extremely slow. The Agedashi tofu was the first dish to come out and to my surprise, it was cold, not crunchy but had a hard texture and it was super bland. Then the teriyaki chicken on beansprouts came out next, the chicken was so terrible, it was overcooked and not moist. The quality of the sashimi was just ok, not premium quality however you are paying premium price. We ordered the nigiri set with no wasabi and asked for no wasabi for one guest. Later I explained that we wanted another 6 pieces of nigiri and that order was fine with wasabi or ginger however I got none. The prawn tempura batter was super thick. Chicken nanban was also just ok. The tamago nigiri was not good and tasted artificial. The oishi salmon sushi was the only dish that we had enjoyed. No one came to clear the dishes or refill our tea or water, service was lacking. You need to make an effort to get their attention. We wanted to place a second order and when we had finally found the server, she came over with a smile but then the hostess quickly ran over to take over but she had trouble understanding what we wanted for our second order. All we wanted was a second order of the oishi salmon sushi and no pesto. We have been to many Japanese restaurants, unfortunately this is not a...

We decided to try out Blue Coast on their 4th week of opening on a rainy Friday!

The atmosphere is quite relaxed and upon entry, there were friendly greetings and the staff were so nice. We were seated promptly and given warm hand towels to clean our hands.

The service was not pushy, and gave us enough time to decide what to order. We went with the beef teriyaki lunch teishoku and the hire katsu set.

The beef teriyaki lunch set had so much variety! It came with miso soup, rice, salad, sunomono, chicken karage, 3 pieces of assorted sushi (spicy salmon, salmon oshi and a mixed roll that I didn't catch the name of), as well as an ebi tempura and yam tempura. For the price, there was a lot of food! The miso soup packed a lot of flavour, and the chicken karage was steaming hot with a sauce that was both creamy and light. The beef teriyaki had a good amount of veggies but also flavour, which worked well with the accompanying rice.

We also got a black sesame ice cream which was not too sweet and full of black sesame flavour! It also had bits of black sesame which was great for that textural crunch.

The service was so friendly and attentive without hovering. We had a lot of laughs with the servers and they also provided recommendations on the menu for next time as well. They're quick to remedy any issues and they're serious about customer happiness. You can really tell that the entire staff care about and take pride in the restaurant.

We'll be back again to try different...

I’d been walking past this place for months while they were getting ready, so when I saw they soft-opened a few days ago, I was excited to finally give it a try today.

First impression: it looks like one of those slightly upscale sushi spots you see around Vancouver, but a couple of things really surprised me. The wine list just blew me away! I grabbed their entry level sparkling wine and it ended up pairing perfectly with everything we ordered. Didn’t expect that level of selection for this kind of price point.

They also gave us complimentary edamame for the soft opening, but it wasn’t just plain edamame. It had a truffle twist that made it crazy flavorful. The seafood oyster tower was the biggest shocker though… easily the best value I’ve seen. Almost half the price of something you’d get at like Bow & Stern (one of my favorite) , but honestly felt better in both taste and quality. Total must-try.

We also had karaage, udon, and asparagus oshi, and you could tell the chef knew what he was doing. Found out later he used to work at Miku, which explains all the fine dining touches throughout the meal.

Service was a bit all over the place during peak time, but honestly it looked like they were a lot busier than expected for a soft opening and the restaurant was already packed. Totally understandable, and the food more than made up for it. When the bill came, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it was for the quality. Definitely planning...

Visited the newly opened Blue Coast in early October. They had only been opened for about a week so still finding their footing. This location is kinda tucked in a residential area next to the Skytrain line near Boundary and Vaness. Had the Spicy Agedashi Tofu ($9) - found the tofu to be a bit too much on the firm side for my preferences. The Oyster Motoyaki ($11) was pretty good with good bright flavours. The Hamachi Nobu Style with serrano pepper ($17) was pleasantly tender, fatty, and creamy with a bit of a spicy kick. Also ordered the Over the Rainbow Roll ($18) which was brightly displayed with the various colours of the rainbow made up of different seafood items and the Negitoro roll ($6). The real standout here tho was their lunch specials. We tried the Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Teishoku ($19.5) and I gotta say that it is a good value. I especially liked the special item of the day which I think was a chicken karaage which had a crispy skin coating encasing some really tender and juicy chicken meat and paired with some kind of citrusy sauce. They had just opened a week ago and had a special where diners spin a wheel to win prizes. We won a free black sesame ice cream. This was a generous serving and came with a taro chip. I think the black sesame was a bit light as it wasn't overly nutty and rather mild. Service was not bad but we did have to ask for tea refills once but other times they were attentive and asking for feedback.
