Cool neighbourhood cafe with a charming vintage aesthetic. I liked taking in all the little details like the stepladder and lamps on some of the tables. The barista that helped me was friendly and patient. Lots of variety in the sandwich department, including many vegetarian options and one vegan sandwich, with a few more vegan (and some non-vegan) options to be found in the other areas of the menu like salad and soups. Great selection of loose leaf tea. Slim pickings for pastries when I showed up around 2. I got a brie & olive sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie (the last one), and a darjeeling tea. The sandwich was very simple - just brie, olives, and lots of black pepper - but it was fantastic! The baguette was very soft and tender, and just the right amount of crusty. The creamy brie and briny olives were a delightful pairing. Simple is best sometimes. The cookie was good, also very soft, with a little bit of a buttery flavour. A little cakey, but that's not a bad thing. Nice tea too, a nice pairing with the cookie. I like that the mesh steeper they used covered the top of the mug to keep the tea hot while steeping, and they provided a small plate to remove the tea leaves when it was steeped to my liking. The vibe would have been immaculate, except one of the baristas decided that they needed to play club music, loudly, when it was their turn on the aux. Aggressive bass and airhorns. At first I thought they were just having a laugh playing one song but it kept going. It was weird and made me not want to stick around because it was so incongruous with the intimate neighbourhood coffee...
Read moreFinch's Market is a nice neighborhood cafe. The market is a combination of a coffee bar with a light food menu and a market with a few staple groceries such as some root vegetables.
The market is located in a busy neighborhood near Chinatown and parking is a challenge. There are many parking restrictions on the nearby streets and the residents will call bylaw if they see you parking illegally. When I went on a Tuesday morning, I had to park over two blocks away, even though the cafe was empty.
The interior of the cafe is beautiful. It features lots of heritage wood and feels like your grandmother's kitchen. The antique fridge is a cute feature. This would be a great spot to grab a morning coffee after a night on the town. Or a cute spot to meet a date.
The staff misunderstood my order, but was quick to resolve the issue and apologetic. It was likely due to a language barrier and that he was new. I appreciated that the manager came over right away and assisted me and corrected the issue.
I'd like to try the cafe again and hopefully when I have more time to enjoy some of the food as well. But, next time I'd...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend Finch’s Main St due to their lack of honesty.
I ordered a sandwich from Finch’s on UberEats only to find out that the Finch’s on UberEats is the Main St location rather than the West Pender St location (absurd given that I only got to the UberEats link through the GoogleMaps page for the West Pender location). I called Finch’s Main St within 5min of ordering to cancel and refund my order. The staff on the phone said ok, although sounding reluctant. But I took her word for it. Lo and behold, while the order was cancelled, Finch’s Main St still charged my credit card. If you did not want to refund me, you could have said so on the phone. At least I would’ve gotten a chance to address it and assess my options. ——————————- In response to the owner’s reply:
My problem is that the staff agreed to cancel and refund me on the phone, but she did not refund me. If she was not able to refund my order, why didn’t she tell me? It’s as simple as that. She produced the mistaken impression that I would not be charged. And now I’m in left in the situation of dealing with UberEats who refuses to refund the...
