This was my second visit to Gotham Steakhouse. My first experience here set the bar very high—I had what was probably the best steak I’ve had in Vancouver. The bone-in rib steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, finished with molten salt on top. The aroma of the beef and the salinity of the molten salt complemented each other beautifully. A truly memorable steak that made me eager to return whenever I craved a proper cut of beef.
On this visit, I ordered the bone-in rib steak again, along with beef tenderloin carpaccio, cheese toast, lyonnaise potatoes, and a side of béarnaise sauce.
The beef carpaccio was excellent—thin slices of tenderloin with a delicate, meaty flavor, elevated by a parmesan tuile that added crunch and savoriness. The truffle, black garlic, and lemon aioli layered in depth and complexity, making this a very well-executed starter.
The cheese toast, their signature item, remains fabulous and consistent. Perfectly salty and cheesy, with a crisp exterior and soft interior. A simple dish, but one they’ve mastered.
The lyonnaise potatoes, however, didn’t leave much of an impression. Perfectly fine, but in comparison to the cheese toast, they felt mediocre and forgettable.
Finally, the steak—unfortunately, this time it was a disappointment. The surface was over-charred to the point of being burnt, leaving bitter notes that overshadowed the natural quality of the beef. The meat itself was still good, but without the molten salt finish and with the bitterness of the burnt crust, it was far from the perfection I had on my first visit. The béarnaise sauce was flavorful, but it couldn’t fully cover up the flaws in execution. My best guess is that I went right at dinner opening, and something was off in the kitchen—perhaps the grill wasn’t calibrated yet. Still, that’s not an excuse to serve a burnt steak, especially at this level.
Service, as always, was top-notch—friendly, professional, and attentive.
I’ll give Gotham one more try, this time at peak dining hours, hoping to recapture the outstanding steak experience from my first visit. The potential is definitely there, but...
Read moreSorry to write this review a week late. Yes , we were at Gotham steak place last sunday after a gammam n Hamam therapy. Oh god! I wish i could relive those two experiences again but don’t know yet. I actually had the best rum cocktail here n so i chucked in two side by side. 😝 Lets talk about ambiance of this place. I would say very classy. Both indoor and outdoor is very semi casual and semi formal environment. Beautifully landscaped and plant decor concrete patio is my favourite and thats what we chose for our seating or i guess we were reserved at that table as the server lead us there. ( i guess thats what happened 🤔 . Never mind all in all , it was a perfect sunny day on a gracious patio and extremely friendly and enthusiastic servers. Good servers will make you order more food just as a good cook will make you eat more. Apparently it was our fault to order too much food . Our server just obliged to our requests and we do that often because once we find vegetarian items on the menu , we just want ti try them all. But everything we ordered was cooked to perfection, delicious and healthy (beet salad to name some healthy stuff) . There are plenty of non vegetarian n seafood available but vegetarians are not left behind. Some can also be customized to maje it vegetarian like our brussel sprouts. I sometimes eat chicken so i was tempted to eat stuffed barbecue chicken which i must say was not only delicious but juicy too. Since i dont eat chicken regular so i coukd eat only onr leg/thigh of it but the portion could be small for bigger appetite people. Very yummy though. Clean cutlery, super clean washrooms, well dressed and fully masked and gloved servers greet you from time to time, take away used cutlery and empty utensils from your table so i realkt liked that one table was served food by one server but the table cleaning or water or drink refilling was taken care by any servers . Tables were cleaner for u to lean on after drinking few drinks. Deserts are many too but i drooled over brulee after long time n it was worth every calorie i...
Read moreI have never and I mean never had such an amazing customer service experience then I have with this restaurant. Don’t get me wrong though the steaks speak for themselves.
Price: If you are looking to join this restaurant for lunch or dinner then you must have done your research on the menu and their prices. But you get what you pay for and oh my goodness it is worth every penny. ⭐️
Portion/palate: Portions are all explained in the menu by ounces and since our son joined us we ordered the kids pasta and the grilled cheese with fries. Since my son did not like the pasta they graciously took the plate back without charge and we then ordered the grilled cheese with fries and he loved it! I had a 10oz Wagyu striploin Kobe and my wife had the 32oz bone-in Rib Steak. Both steaks were neatly sliced for our convenience and the taste of the steaks were just…. 🤤You get what I mean. We also ordered a bottle of J.LOHR Seven Oaks and shared a plate of Sautéed Asparagus both were delicious. After dinner we got my son the kids sundae and we treated ourselves with the best Chocolate Brownie I have ever had in my life! ⭐️
Place: There is parking just across the street and also a parkade you can park in as well, both will be paid parking. The restaurant was clean inside and the outside looked like an older building. Since we were coming from Surrey it is a bit far for us but worth the drive. ⭐️
People: The service has to be one of the best I have ever experienced. Ever. Our server was Brandon but all of the staff were personable and kind. They never stuck their noses in the air and never looked down on us based on what we wore or who we were. If the food was average then I would come back just for the service. That is how good it is! ⭐️
I highly recommend going at least once to this amazing steak house! If not for the food then go for the experience (but you’ll love the...
