This review is absolutely no reflection on House of Dosas. House of Dosas has always been great with service and food quality!
This is about the deplorable actions of the DoorDasher by the name of Nodirjon.
I do not intend to continue with DoorDash as a delivery service and also noting that DoorDash now charges high fees for service, and also hires people like Nodirjon, to complete Deliveries.
On November 15, 2024, I relied on DoorDash to pick-up and deliver to me, an Order, from House of Dosas, on Kingsway.
The Order included a Drink/Desert (Mango Lassi). DoorDasher-Nodirjon delivered the Order to me, and quickly took off. I checked the Order and found that it was missing the Mango Lassi.
DoorDasher-Nodirjon had already left, so I got onto the DoorDash Chat App, to chat with Nodirjon.
I said this:
“Hello, About this order, I did not receive the drink, and my credit card was charged the amount, including the drink?”
Doordasher-Nodirjon replied with:
“I brought whatever he gave me. I couldn't check what was in the paper bag. Because it was closed. You can complain to the store. Sorry for this”
Believing DoorDasher-Nodirjon’s message, that as he said that he delivered everything given to him by House of Dosas, I phoned House of Dosas.
The employee at House of Dosas mentioned that the Mango Lassi had in fact been given to the DoorDasher separately, because it was a Cold Item, and not packaged with the other Hot items in the Bag. The employee also mentioned that as a practice they always take photographs of the Order as handed over to the DoorDasher, and they had photographs in this instance, to prove that the Mango Lassi was in fact provided, contrary to the denial by DoorDasher-Nodirjon.
This was obviously opposite to the reply by DoorDasher-Nodirjon , when he stated that he had not been provided anything else, other than the “paper bag”.
I then mentioned in the Chat, to DoorDasher-Nodirjon:
"Hey, I spoke with the store, and they have pictures of the order, showing they gave you the drink separately??"
Very disturbingly, DoorDasher-Nodirjon then changed his story and said:
"If you remember, I thanked you for the drink when I went to your place. They gave me a mango latte drink and said this is for you from the customer. I drank it thinking it was for me, because they told me it was for you. I am very sorry for this. Give me your e-mail and I can e-transfer the damage to you."
I was shocked by this, that a DoorDasher would consume any item ordered by a customer, and then first deny any involvement with the missing item, and then, change the story once he was advised that there was proof that the transaction was in fact fully complete, and that there remained the matter of a missing food item, not delivered to the DoorDash Customer.
This is not a matter of simply getting a refund from Doordash for the missing item, but, a matter of being able to rely on DoorDash to deliver a full order and not expect that a DoorDasher would consume a part of the Order and deny any involvement, until presented with facts, as I did in this matter.
As a customer I should not have been forced to waste my time chasing down a missing food item, when I already paid service fees, and a Tip to the...
Read moreOk so here we go again into the iffy feeling on whether or not to try this place one more time. The first time I came here I didn’t bother writing a review because I was thoroughly displeased, disappointed, and a little disgusted at the level of cleanliness of the restaurant to the point where I ordered and had a bite and refused to eat more. Everything was caked in grease. They had carpet runners going from the front of the house to the inside rows of the dining room cause god forbid you stepped off the runners there would be a major slippage action happening. The walls were a different shade of dull brownish white and the tables and utensils??? Need I mention the bathrooms... I would’ve been able to place a bet on anybody in the bathroom to be able to P standing up without their feet hitting the walls for support, talk about ice rink. Even though it was a hazard to step off the rug I decided to step in to see how the food actually was and put the horrid thoughts aside but when I walked in my jaw hit the ground… Spotless!
Since I’ve last been here about three years ago they had had a renovation which left the place looking bright and open instead of dark and greasy. Now you could actually see the walls and the tile underneath the film of grease. There is only a single runner to wipe your feet on the way in instead of a bandaid to a bigger problem. And guess what, you guessed it, no more ice rink. I guess all betts are off for the bathroom because even those are spotless. In shock, I couldn’t stop telling the waiter that the restaurant looked very nice even though it’s just a mediocre restaurant yet extremely authentic. I ordered a paper thin dosa with Lam, which to my surprise was bigger than my arm. The food tasted authentically superb. I knew after trying the restaurant for the second time there was only one thing left to do which was to step out of retirement in writing reviews to starting up to this wonderful experience and change what was once a no star to a five star. If you want to try some authentic doses that are very close to home to the South Asians, I highly recommend this restaurant.
Don’t forget to try their lasi as they are pretty tasty
As for always,
Bom appetite...
Read moreAfter hearing many recommendations to this place, I am thoroughly DISAPPOINTED with its service. Perhaps they were having an off day?
First case: my friend was trying to order 2 of the parathas with chicken, but what seemed to be the manager kept getting it wrong thinking it was the one with egg, which is $4 MORE. Ultimately, despite the fact my friend pointed at the menu of what she wanted twice, and had to clarify herself 2 times, the manager inputted the wrong dish that wasn’t even on the physical menu she was pointing at. She ended up having to pay for the MORE EXPENSIVE, WRONG DISH. The manager did gave her one plain parantha… but was it worth it? It costs them probs $0.25, which is much less than the $4 upcharge they scammed for forcing her with the wrong dish.
The other instance that was frustrating was when we were trying to pay, I was telling the server “no, we don’t want to SPLIT, we want to pay our SEPARATE items”. I even pointed at my item I order trying to explain that I will be paying only for it. I see that she was inputting the 50-50 split amount in the machine and tried explaining further, when she kept telling me“one moment” with her finger point up. Ultimately, after saying “one moment” 3-4 times, she indeed misunderstood, and had to ask the manager for help.
At least they filled our water up often. To which, I am giving 2 stars for service. I feel bad for leaving a negative review, but truly that was the experience we had - negative. They clearly were unable to listen to us, and were too eager to talk over us with the wrong order, or wrong info.
Perhaps I will give this another shot as the food was good enough for the...
