Visited Ki Isu for lunch yesterday and had a pretty good time! We had one of the combos, some Yam Tempura, a special roll, a salad, miso soup and the gyoza. The food was very good, especially the Yam Tempura and the Pan Fried Gyozas whoch were excellent. The sushi selection in the combo was good (though the plate did not have enough wasabi) while the special roll was interesting but a missed step in my opinion, great taste but way too much in terms of size (both of individual rolls and the dish overall), ended up making my gf feel way too full. Service was competent and polite but hit a small sang at the start, our drinks were very slow to arrive and we had to remind our waiter. Atmosphere is great in this are and the nice sunny day pulls a lot of the weight. That said the restaurant is bright, welcoming and clean. Though the table on the outside looked pretty cheap compared to the interior, understandable but a small knock in such a wealthy area nontheless. Overall price was fair at 34 per person for a lunch in a very upscale neighbourhood. And the food itself was abundant. A couple of mimor missteps but at the same time a very pleasant lunch. Might swing back if I'm in the area in the future

We used to order take out from Ki isu Yaletown until they messed up our online order one time—we waited in the restaurant for one hour to pick up our order and it wasn't ready. So, finally, we had to leave without and apologize or a refund. They renovated recently, I like the lighter interior and the seating was more comfortable and less 'exposed'. We ate in. The salmon teriyaki was very tender and it came with six or seven(?) pieces of salmon. The black rice was not as cook as it tasted sour, probably because they used sushi rice instead of plain rice. The salmon sashimi and cone was excellent. The most disappointing part was that the renovations did not solve the problem of greasy kitchen smoke penetrating our clothing. Evening though we didn't notice the smell while we were in the restaurant, when we came out, I could smell deep fried food in my jeans, puffy jacket and sweater which is rather inconvenient as the clothing cannot be put in the closet smelling like that!

Basically, they denied their mistake, were unapologetic and served stale food. Details: I ordered spicy chopped scallop roll and California roll. The scallop was pink instead of white for some pieces. (Please see picture). When I asked the staff, they said it’s because of the tobiko (fish roes). I told them there’s no way the scallop would be all pink because of the tobiko. The staff kept denying and repeating that it was because of the tobiko and it was not mixed well, hence the pink colour. But how come I had 3 pieces of rolls that were all white scallop and three that were all pink scallops??? The chef stared at me in a not nice way when I was talking to the staff about it. They were also reluctant to cancel the order until I insisted. The California roll didn’t taste that fresh either, but still edible. Overall, this is one of the worst experiences and I was exposed to the risk of food poisoning

Update August 2022 back to FIVE stars * Ok, I ordered again. After my last review I was so disappointed, but since I had ordered many times from Ki Isu and loved the food, I think last one was a one off. The food was delicious again. I love their Dinner box A.

Update July 2022 ONE star *

What happened to you guys???Unfortunately I had to degrade my rating from 5 to 1 stars. I always order Dinner box A for pick up, and get it 20 minutes later. In the past the food was super fresh, my favorite. Today Dinner box was stale. I’m heartbroken. Tempura was cold and soggy. Chicken dry, California roll was cold & tasted refrigerated several hours ago. Your place used to be my favorite sushi place. I’ve brought several friends on many occasions. Now I have to find a new sushi place. I’m so mad at you. You don’t know how hard it is to find a fresh sushi place. I threw out the food and had a boring bagel.

Original message five starts * Nov 2021 Love this place. Super fresh sushi. Finally I found my...
