I should have paid importance to what Josh Jordan wrote in his review. I just went to Salsa & Agave, quite hungry and craving for a Carne Asada dish and a beer, they are the perfect pair. After immediately sensing that the waiter does not enjoy his job whatsoever (he notoriously makes sure people do notice that) I ordered my favourite food and waited. I must admit that my food arrived very quickly and I was glad for that but as I was receiving my plate on the table couldn't help but notice the strong smell my food had: something very unpleasant I cannot quite pinpoint but immediately made me think of kitchen garbage. It was very disappointing and quite a frustrating experience as I wasn't even able to try and force my self to eat at least a little just to get some nutrition somehow. Well, I couldn't eat a single bit of it and decided to leave, letting them know my food smelled terribly bad and that I was unwillingly leaving. One usually expects some sort of apology for that; I find it disgusting and distasteful that, while we trust them with our nutrition, health and eating experience, they just content themselves as a business with getting the customers money for as little as quality they can provide. It is sad that food, which requires passion or at least utmost care to be served, gets pushed to patrons in this fashion. I did not get an apology nor a discount and not even a word from the kitchen or the manager; all I got was my visa getting charged $21.00 as I was being handed the POS machine with the prompt, yet quite out of place message "leave a tip? % $" I seriously recommend prospective customers to look somewhere else for food, visiting this business will ruin your appetite and disrespect you with an irreverent intention of charging you for a...
Read moreThe food is delicious, prices are reasonable and the location is amazing, but I feel that I have to write this review because my visit today was not pleasant at all.
I went with a friend for lunch, I ordered a soup and horchata. My friend ordered soup, 2 beers one of them michelada and we shared 1 dessert. When we asked for the bill the girl asked if one bill all together was ok, we replied “no, separate bills please”. Then, she said: “well, it’s almost the same amount so I’ll just split the total in 2”. We were a bit confused but we thought that maybe we didn’t understand correctly what she said, anyway we continued our conversation.
She came back with the bill and said: ok, so the total is $54 ish… divided by 2 equals $27.50 each, and put the card payment machine in front of me with the amount ready to add the tip and pay. I asked why is that much?? (I have a limited budget, so the amount was out of it), she showed us the bill and what she did was splitting the whole bill in 2 equal parts.
My friend noticed it and commented that as she has ordered more stuff, she would have to pay more, but the machine was already set and the waitress ignored her and impatiently waited for the payment. I just tell her that there is not problem at all and paid the $27.50 + tip. I don’t mind paying for my friend, I’m happy to do so, and actually she was willing to pay her part, it is not about the money because it was not a significant difference, but the whole moment was kind of awkward for both my friend and me.
I don’t know if she is new in the service industry, but I guess she doesn’t know what the “separate bill” concept means. My understanding is that every person pays for its own order.
Other than that, the place is a good place to find good...
Read moreI have a lot of things to say about this restaurant. First of all, I was raised in southern California where many delicious Mexican restaurants almost everywhere. You can call me a Mexican food snob. I was shocked and disappointed with this restaurant. I moved to Vancouver, BC and looked up to see if Vancouver has any great Mexican restaurants to try and learned about this restaurant based on the great reviews. I was excited to try this restaurant and now I am really disappointed in this restaurant. I suspect either these people who wrote great reviews might be paid reviewers to praise this restaurant or actually are totally clueless what authentic Mexican food is really like. Here is the details of my experience with this restaurant:
The waitress who served us weren't really pay attention to any tables and we had to hand wave to catch her attention when we want to order something or ready to check out. It was really frustrating because she wasn't doing her job and she was the only waitress of this restaurant.
This restaurant is first Mexican restaurant I went that expected anyone to pay for the salsa and chips. That says lot about the restaurant owner as being cheap or greedy.
I ordered the shrimp burrito and I got really sad burrito. The flour tortilla was so dry which is hard to cut or bite! The shrimps inside the burrito were really strange because it got sliced (who does that?!?) and didn't get seasoned. It was most boring burrito ever I had in my life! This meal has no soul or love from the cooks/chef.
If you're from anywhere that have many decent Mexican restaurants and appreciate delicious authentic Mexican food or Mexican food snob like me, do not waste your money on...
