Well, we definitely must have hit a bad night. We were there on Christmas as a last minute trip and we decided it would be fun to get Chinese on Christmas night. This place was busy so we were excited! Then was were were sitting there, we realized that they were slammed with takeout orders and they were overwhelmed. The food took some time to arrive and the worst part about sitting in the restaurant was their ventilation system was definitely not sufficient for the amount of fumes coming from the kitchen. The entire restaurant was filled in a smoke filled haze and it wasn't pleasant. We ordered the D17. Wonton Soup which was AMAZING!. We also ordered the D3. 生煎包 Pan Fried Pork Buns which had what could only be described inside as a sausage patty stuffed inside. It was like eating a day old McDonald's Sausage McMuffin (which we haven't eaten one of those is years). We ordered the D18. Pan Fried Chicken Potstickers which were pretty good for sure. We ordered the B7. Grade AAA Alberta Beef Steak with Chilli & Black Pepper which was good but it had a ton of the dried red chilies all over the dish...we mean like there were more of those than then pieces of steak. The flavor and tenderness of the steak was good but it was covered up by all those dried red chilies. The final thing we ordered was the C9. Xinjiang Spicy Chicken which the menu read stir fried which we though mean stir fried in a wok but instead they were pieces of chicken that were battered and deep fried and the pieces were definitely not all white meat. Anyhow, we feel bad those people had to work on Christmas night but we were super disappointed especially because we heard so much about the Asian food in Vancouver. We hate writing bad reviews but we're definitely foodies and we know what's good and what isn't.

I never write reviews -- ever. I just never found a restaurant where I felt that the food or experience was exceptional....that is until now. I have ordered from GCY at least a dozen times now. Recently, I've been ordering their lunch specials. Wow!! It was incredible. The portions are huge, the food is fresh, the quality and taste is always consistent. Oh and it's like $12.00!!! Where can you find that kind of a deal nowadays?? I've ordered their dinner items also, but preferred the lunch deals as it comes with rice and you can select a healthier option (red rice). It's probably one of the more relatively 'healthier' Chinese food restaurants as I also specify no MSG and less oil. They follow those instructions because I can tell in the noodles I've ordered before that it wasn't greasy at all. But small caveat, when you order, make sure to let them know to clean their woks. One time, there were black 'specs' in my food and I know it was from the wok probably not being cleaned in-between each order. Ever since then, no problems whatsoever every single time thereafter. Honestly, try these guys out -- especially for lunch. This is their beef & broccoli, and curry chicken -- both with red rice.

Had a delightful experience at this Chinese restaurant! The food is not only delicious but also showcases some local adaptations in the dish names, making it accessible for a diverse audience. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are reasonable. My dining partner and I ordered four dishes and two bowls of rice; we couldn't resist the flavorful lamb and tofu soup. Despite our hearty appetite, we ended up taking half of the feast home. The restaurant staff were exceptional! Both servers at our table were attentive, multilingual, and accommodating, conversing effortlessly in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. While dining, I noticed the popularity of their takeout service (I can relate – I've been a regular for their delivery). Opting for an in-person experience this time, I was pleased to find that the taste remained top-notch. The menu, adorned with pictures, offers an extensive selection catering to various preferences – whether you're a fan of snacks, vegetables, light fare, or spice, they've got you covered. With numerous tantalizing options yet to try, I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended for a satisfying and diverse Chinese culinary experience!
