I’ve been to this restaurant a few times. At first I was skeptical and the reviews weren’t great, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have one of the best sweet and sour pork. In my opinion they are second to Dynasty on W Broadway. The scallion chicken was also really good. Today, we had the Alaskan king crab 3 ways. Steamed with garlic, stir-fried with soy sauce and fried rice with Portuguese sauce. All 3 were done perfectly. I put them right up there with Kirin and Dynasty. Prices are also very reasonable. I went for dimsum and the waitress told me that everything is made in-house. My favourite was the steamed bbq pork bun. For me, it’s one of the best ones I’ve had in Vancouver. The bun is not soggy or overly soft, the filling had the perfect taste and texture. Some places make the filling too sweet, not enough meat, strong alcohol taste. The brisket with rice rolls was amazing. It came in a clay pot still sizzling. The XO sauce with white radish cake was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside while not skimping on the white radish. This place is a real hidden gem. It’s the real deal if you’re looking for authentic Cantonese food. The only thing I didn’t think was very good was the Chinese donut wrapped in rice roll when I...
Read moreI was going to give a 2-star rating but given that it's a new restaurant and the owner seems to be paying attention for improvement via reviews, I'll bump it up to 3 for now.
We ordered take-out via Fantuan, and the food and prices were reasonable in general*. The rice noodle dishes were both good, *HOWEVER 2 of the 3 dim sum dishes tasted obviously not freshly made. It was either made much earlier in the day and not kept at the right temperature, or from the day before and just reheated - to be specific, they were the tripe and spareribs.
I can understand if dishes aren't made to order. But these 2 were borderline going bad, unless the chef was going for a badly fermented sour taste... If we were dining at the restaurant, we would have definitely sent these back and ask the staff to taste it for themselves to verify.
I hope the new management sees this and takes...
Read moreFood is a tad spicier, saltier and saltier than before but reasonably good.
Some dishes changed not necessarily for the better like the sweet and spicy cauliflower with Chinese sausage (taste mainly due to what looks like Thai Sweet Chili sauce). I liked soya sauce fried more.
Deep fried stuff were a little on the dark side like using same frying oil for too long.
The Chinese donut in rice roll was good as was the streamed truffle mushroom dumpling. Eggplant was as before which was good.
Pricing averaged around $11 per dish.
Not sure if they still provided parking behind the restaurant still or not as all spots fill when we arrived. Free residential street parking still available.
Service was ok, not really good nor really bad.
I would still give this place another try to see how...
