Mi Casa Mexicana — Restaurant in Vancouver

This restaurant took my breath away from the moment we walked up the stairwell. For one thing, this place basically just opened up during this time of Early June, and this place is Busy; for good reason! The food is succulent, delicious, and it's price is reasonable for how well it fills you. The key thing for me though is the Atmosphere. Mexican food is some of my favorite, but I notice many other places here in Van miss the mark when it comes to capturing that lively Latin Atmosphere. Here? The music is inviting and enjoyable, but its music you can chat under. It's not too loud, or too known, or too Party-Inducing. It's lively enough that you want to get on your feet, but calm enough too that it just makes you wiggle happily in your seat. The lighting is also Superb, and gives that sweet "Sundown in the City of Sun" kind of feel, and the decor is highly thought provoking and truly inspires a warm atmosphere. My companions and I were enjoying ourselves so much we found ourselves chatting with other smiling faces around while we waited for the food, which was a rare treat. It wasn't as if we had long to wait though, because even with every table permitted being filled, from what I saw everyone, including ourselves, were receiving their food before a full conversation was even done. Excellent service, Marvelous design, Stunning and truly delectable food that I could see was being appreciated. It's rare for a restaurant to so perfectly capture the essence of an Authentic Mexican Experience, but I truly felt myself drifting back to México with every heartbeat, laugh, and swallow. The food was not a problem however because the service was so bad it made the food absolutely not worthwhile.

We arrived at 6:30 and did not end up getting our meal until just before 8.

Upon sitting down it took quite some time for our server to tell us we had to scan a tiny barcode to view menu (I did see tables with physical menus which I would have much prefered as the menu is quite long). Once we ordered the appy and she came back some time later I said we are ready to order our mains and she said she would be back. We ended up waiting more.

Every single drink we ordered we had to ask for multiple times as the server was constantly forgetting to bring them ( and we ordered several). Finally the last drink ordered we just said forget it can we have the bill.

We ordered the salsa train to start and the amount of chips that came with the order was really sad for the amount of salsa. The chip bowl was half empty. When we asked our server about it she could have cared less and suggested we order more so we had to order a large basket of chips (which was the appropriate amount for 3 people as well as the amount of salsa). Eventually someone came over who im not sure if he was a manager or owner and he apologized and brought us even more chips which was nice. We didn't end up being charged for any of the additional chips which I appreciated but we were so overlooked and waited so long for our food it was the least they could do.

DO NOT COME HERE WHEN YOU KNOW IT WILL BE BUSY. Food is absolutely amazing, service is brutal. Came here for lunch and it was fine, but it was dead. I thought it would be a good date night.

We get in, seated pretty quick. Server takes awhile to get there, but it's busy. Seems like there's 1 server for the whole place? 845 pm on a Friday?

Food runner brings us our chips and bartender brings margs. Drinks take 20 minutes. I get it, we got a margarita sampler, and it's art. Very good. Server never comes back to take our order, never checks in to see how things are. 20 minutes go by, I'm finally able to flag her down to order. My food gets to the table shortly after, my partner is feeling sick and we have to go so I ask for to go packaging for mine and to have the kitchen pack hers up. I manage to finish my food (I am not a fast eater) and hers stills isn't out. I go to the bar to pay my bill. Our server is eating at the bar. Not munching, like eating a meal. Never told us someone else would take care of us, never came to check on us. I ask the bartender how long for our food, he says he'll check. Never tells me. Server then used the debit machine with the hands she'd been eating with to punch something in for the bartender, who handed it to me. We paid and left, without taking the food we'd been waiting for.
