Excellent gelato (Italian ice cream) for "grownups". That means they don't seem to fancy the awful artificial flavours such as bubblegum, and that is a really good thing in my opinion. If you need industrial artificial super colourful ice cream, go to... Purdys maybe? (I run away from them every time I look at their ice cream, and I know a lot of people love them). Anyways, this quality of ice cream is very rare in Vancouver. The Tahiti vanilla is nice (I'd put more vanilla), not too sweet (some people need extremely sweet ice cream, which is a sign of poor quality, but they're too addicted to sweetness to realize that). The stracciatella (milk flavour gelato with solid dark chocolate) is excellent, the chocolate in it is not too fat or too sweet (edit: after a few times, I found out it was Valrhona Araguani 72% true dark chocolate, one of the very best dark chocolates in the world both in quality and taste). The lemon is sooo good, my favourite sorbet! My wife loved the macha (Japanese green tea) flavour, for being not too sweet and not bitter. Well, not many places compete with Passione Gelato. Will go back there several times this summer for sure.
Edit: 2 months after the initial review, I can say I h'aven't been back there just a several times but way more than 20 times... Also, if you love real coffee, the Maestro makes excellent coffee (espresso, latte, cappuccino, americano) but also affogato (gelato with a shot of espresso). But then again, if you swear by Starbucks coffee, maybe you won't like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery expensive and as a choc/van/strawberry lover.. was disappointed by the lack of appetizing traditional flavors. I got the tahitian vanilla which was somewhat rich (not enough consodering the 7$ a scoop heavy price tag) but lacking the vanilla depth and sweetness i expected esp sort of tasted bland. Tahitian vanilla should be on the sweeter side of vanilla. I give 4/10 edible but not exactly delicious.. My friend got the earl grey and it was hands down disgusting. Bitter and unsweettened overly steeped tea with an extra zap of raw bergamot essential oil just to complete the gross out. 1/10 There isnt one flavor other than vanilla that a child could enjoy, either. Ugh lavender, rose, black sesame etc are trendy on menus right now but not appetizing in the slightest way.. Whats next? Wild onion, sea cucumber, tree bark? Im so sick of these gelato places popping up that cant even do a good vanilla only have high cocoa chocolate flavors and the only strawberry is sorbet. What happened to doing the classics right? I think gelato houses shouldnt attempt any avant garde flavors untill they have the classic american flavors MASTERED. show me a perfected blue bubblegum and ill show you a busy gelato house that wont be perpetually empty till it closes in 6 weeks. Two stars: Staff were courteous and establishment was clean. Portions generous and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I first ordered the vegan pistachio and hazelnut I fell in love! The vegan pistachio texture was creamy and smooth. I dream about this gelato when I get cravings. No place in the city does pistachio this flavourful, plus itās vegan. I was surprised to know that there was no dairy in the gelato. The hazelnut is amazing, I will get it almost every time. I like the nutty flavours, though I have tried the Cherry Nikka (with Japanese whisky) and loved it too. I enjoyed the extra hint of whiskey paired with cherry. I frequent this gelato shop at least 1-2x a week because thereās always new flavours available. Hands down one of my favourite new spots in town! The quality/flavour of the product says it all! I have brought quite a few friends by to check it out and they are pleased with the overall quality and variety of flavours offered. The location is quite hard to find since itās a cute little shop tucked in beside the Parq Casino. Once you know where it is, you wonāt forget. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place! Other faves: Thai tea, matcha, black sesame, dark shock (vegan dark chocolate-a perfect complement to pistachio or hazelnut )Yummm! Well done, Passione, every...
