History Born 1938 in Sint-Niklaas, Guy Foubert was a passionate Belgian chocolatier, but his story alone is not ours. Rather, ours is a love story. When Guy married his lover, Liliane, in 1958, the two immortalized their passion for life’s sweetest pleasures, love and chocolate, by joining their names to one: Chocolaterie Guy-lian.
In celebration of love and chocolate, the couple created for the first time the Guylian Sea Shell Chocolates. Guy developed the iconic recipe of our signature in-house roasted hazelnut praliné filling; Liliane added the artistic touch by designing the shining marbled exterior and the delicately sculptured shapes, the white and dark chocolate intertwining like the lives of the two lovers, an immortal tale of romance that is retold in every marbled seashell today.
Company As one of the top-ten best-selling boxed chocolate brands, Guylian chocolates are sold in over 120 countries across Europe, Asia, Australia and America, and are available in countless retailers across the World, including supermarkets, hypermarkets, department stores, specialty food stores, petrol stations, not to mention online and at the Guylian Belgian Chocolate Cafés. You might also discover the exclusive travellers’ range at speciality travel stores and duty-free shops.
All Guylian chocolates are produced in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, where Guylian Master Chocolatiers produce up to 75 tonnes of chocolate daily in a production area measuring 27.000 m². This allows the Guylian group a worldwide non-consolidated turnover of 80 million euros (2015). In turn, this ensures that Guylian is one of Belgium’s leading chocolate manufacturers, with a team of 250 employees and sales offices in the UK, Germany/Austria and Spain/Portugal.

Read moreThe barista was very friendly, but I don't think I'll be coming back unless they make some changes. If this was a larger chain, I'd give it 2 stars, but don't like dunking on small businesses. There's a strange vibe. The venue, food, and drinks are mediocre. The decor is fairly nice and this place has so much opportunity to print money, but it's clearly lost its mojo. Or at least on todays visit.
There's a huge selection of pastries but labels are missing, facing the wrong way, and the food looks a few days old. It's a Sunday, so maybe the weekend was slow? It was a long weekend, so forecasting could be challenging.
The ham and cheese croissant was disappointing, as the tomatoes were old and it resembled a supermarket sandwich.
Everything looks a bit dirty. This place could turn it around by paying more attention to detail, quality, focusing on fresh food (made-to-order sandwiches + fewer desserts + menu items focusing on fresh), clean menus, clear signs, food labels, and staff with clean aprons, and limiting dogs within the cafe.
Hope this pace can turn it around. Great location and could easily compete with popular cafes like Breka and...
Read moreMy favourite coffee shop around! The owner is such a sweet man and the staff continuously go out of there way to provide a warm and comforting experience. I go in there to study/do paper work sometimes and one morning all I had ordered was a tea and found myself buried in whatever I was working on for a few hours. The owner must have noticed me focused without taking any breaks to eat, he walked over to my table smiled and handed me a banana. This gesture was so kind and the fact that he even cared enough to notice I hadn't eaten and to take action from there reminded me of how many truly good people are out there. It may seem like a small gesture to some but for me it made such a positive impact that I think about it so often I knew I needed to take the time to write a review. Thank you to the owner and staff at The Belgian Chocolate Cafe, you are all wonderful and I will continue to go back for...
