Update: I dined alone here on June 18, 2025 in the evening and unfortunately, this visit completely changed how I feel about a restaurant I used to enjoy. I’ve been here enough in the past to feel welcomed, but one negative experience with a dismissive and rude server was enough to make me uncomfortable returning.

During my meal, I tried to get the waitress’s attention at least three times to have my dirty dishes cleared. When she finally came to my table, I said to her, “I understand you’re busy, but I tried to get your attention a few times
could you please take these away?” she offered no apology, shrugged it off, and coldly told me to “just leave it there.”

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want a cleared table, especially when dining in. I wasn’t rude either. I just didn’t want to eat while staring at a stack of dirty plates. I told her, “I don’t want to keep looking at this,” she finally removed them, but with clear attitude, as if I had done something wrong by asking.

To her credit, a different server I’d been helped by earlier did apologize on her behalf, but the damage was already done. I left feeling unwelcome and disrespected
all because I wanted to “treat myself” after a long day of work
I was instead met with more stress of having another negative experience. I also work in the service industry, so I still tipped the polite server a small amount out of courtesy. I regret it after being treated so poorly by her coworker.

It’s disappointing when one person’s attitude can ruin a place you used to find comfortable. I won’t be returning. I suggest management should review their training for staff to avoid having this problem happen again. What I experienced was unprofessional and not what I was expecting from your fine establishment.

Original: It’s a nice spot for me to go to whenever I want to take a detour on my way home. Friendly service, tasty food at affordable prices! Service has been consistently good, I’ve brought most of my friends here over the past few years...

I feel like I should give this place more of a 3.5 rating but that isn't really an option. My partner and I randomly picked this place while visiting Vancouver but it fell a little bit short on my expectations of Vancouver sushi. While there wasn't anything specifically wrong with it and the sushi itself was palatable, I guess I was just expecting better and more authentic. Visiting from Alberta it really just reminded me of another Alberta sushi restaurant and not even one of the fancier ones.

Decor was fairly simple. The restaurant has a very open space concept with few "cozy" or "private" spots. Many of the tables are lined up in the middle and it creates a rather impersonal feel. If you want a large selection though, and aren't a fan of sushi, this menu would probably be good for you as they had many different dishes that would cater to various people. The night we went, Tonton wasn't particularly busy but service was rather slow and disappointing. I had to ask several times for more water and we even had to flag down the servers for a extra bowls and order.

We ordered a couple of various sushi rolls, including the oshi, and one of the hot pots. The rolls, again, were standard and did the trick to satiate my sushi craving but they weren't "OMG I can't wait to have that again". The highlight of the meal was actually probably the hot pot, which comes in a stone bowl and with it's own gel fueled fire to keep it hot. The broth was tasty and flavorful and it hit the spot and warmed us up from the cold rainy weather. If you were to check out TonTon Sushi, this would be my primary recommendation. Tonton does the trick but I guarantee there has to be many other more...

We just had a late lunch here around 4pm and it was our first time trying this location. We had Spicy Salmon CB, Agedashi Tofu, Yummy Yummy Roll and Creamy Mentaiko Udon.

Pros: The portions are good and sashimi tastes really fresh. Ambience is nice as it is quite spacious. It was not busy when we were there so it was pretty quiet. Creamy mentaiko udon is a hit! The dish is on point and i love the garlic chips. The spicy sauce was a bit sweet for my own taste.

Cons: the service. At first it was nice as we had a warm welcome, and the lady settled us a table really quickly. Food didn’t take long to be served, which made sense because there were only 3,4 tables. Still, we appreciated quick service because we were starving. However, during our time there, the server only came once to clear some dishes, while usually we would get asked 2-3 times to see if everything is okay. We had to ask for water refill. I totally understand if the place was busy so they couldn’t be attentive to us. But it was not at all. The checking out part was the weirdest. The server made us feel like she was shooing us away. I can understand that if the restaurant was having a long lineup and they needed to clear space up for new customers. Again, it was not busy when we were there.

Maybe it was not intentional but that kinda ruined our experience. Still, I hope to visit next time since we enjoy the...

If you’re a sushi lover in Vancouver, let me put you onto a hidden gem: TonTon Sushi. This spot is seriously underrated on Google Reviews, and I have no idea why! Located just a one-minute walk from King Edward Canada Line Station, it’s an easy find—and trust me, it’s worth the trip. I stopped by for the first time tonight, and from the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The place is clean, organized, and welcoming, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. The service? Top-notch. Our server was not only incredibly friendly but also super knowledgeable about the menu—exactly what you want when navigating a great sushi selection. Now, let’s talk about the food—because wow. Every bite was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Even the deep-fried dishes were perfectly crispy, light, and not greasy at all (which, if you know, you know—that’s a big deal). They also offer some rare and high-quality items, which was a pleasant surprise. We went for the sampler sushi plate with Bluefin tuna, scallops, shrimp, and yellowtail—every piece was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And the best part? The pricing is totally reasonable for the quality you’re getting. Bottom line: I loved this place and highly recommend it. If you’re craving amazing Japanese food, TonTon Sushi should be on your list. #Vancouver #food #japan #sushi #canada
