STAY AWAY! If you want a cocktail bar, I would go to Cantina 189 as they are a few blocks away. This place was beyond disappointing. When my friend arrived, she asked for a table of 6 and was told that we would not be able to get one. For reference it was 8pm on a Thursday. She asked if there was a wait list and she responded by laughing and saying "good luck" that it was "impossible". Within a few minutes we were seated, so clearly it was not "impossible". 30 minutes after being seated, we had yet to be given service by anyone in the restaurant, despite making eye contact with out supposed server over 10x. At one point we waved her down and she walked away. In these 30 minutes, the bar completely emptied. So not only was it not "impossible" to be able to seat us all, but we were also not given any sort of service. After waiting for over 30 minutes, we waved down a bartender and got him to get us our round of drinks. When I asked if he had a particular drink, he responded with "no". He didn't offer similar drinks, he literally just said no and was about to walk away... Most of our drinks we got were good, but the flight of white wine was served warm. Also the beer was given 3/4ths full... Nobody had come back to ask us if we needed anything when we finally got our drinks and then when we again asked another random bartender for water, he proceeded to fill 3 out of 4 of our glasses and then never came back to fill our fourth friends. During this time, the servers and bartenders were eating at the bar and completely ignoring us. For the first time in my life, I never tipped. The sad thing is that reading other reviews, others have had similar experiences. I would never recommend to this place, even to a...
Read moreIâm editing my review as we returned here on our way to a Thievery Coporation concert. Although the very lovely manager had offered us a gift certificate to return, hubby didnât feel comfortable taking them up on it and so we went âincognitoâ.
I ordered the same La Ladra and hubby a pinot noir. Service was quite friendly and attentive. However, the wine was served warm-ish (Iâm not taking room temperature here). For a wine bar, we thought this was quite odd- usually wines served by the glass are at least room temperature or a bit chilled. Unfortunately, once more, my wine tasted off and so did hubbyâs- so strange. Either way, Iâve upped my review by a star due to friendly service and the effort made to make our experience better. I thank Uva, but please pay attention to your wine!
Original post: Weâve usually come here before heading to a show, but this was the last time. They didnât have what we ordered on the menu and the wine was off. We were so put off (La Ladra Barbera) that we didnât even want to try it again, and when we finally did the other day, it was so delightful! At $14/glass, and two of us ordering the wine, it wouldâve been nice had the server cared to make an effort when we complained that it tasted wrong. Instead he simply shrugged and looked at us like we were just being fussy. Weâve also ordered a few different food items over time. Flavour is ok, but portions are very small and overall, not good value for money. Iâm not looking for cheap and plentiful, but at least make it awesome if the plate is going to be small. Iâve had good cocktails in the past, and enjoyed servers who are passionate about drinks and what they have to offer. Unfortunately, this doesnât seem to be the...
Read moreSecond visit today and very much my last one.
Both times their menus said different drinks and had different ones. Except today their wine listed outside the door was the one I was keen on.
Went inside and different one listed on their printed menu. Asked the server if I could have the one outside and he picked up the bottle of one listed outside and showed it to his manager, who instead of addressing it directly said to server in an aggressive tone, "if it's listed in the happy hour menu, means we haven't had the time to update the one outside", and then walked away. Server looked embarrassed and came to me saying sorry and shrugged his shoulders. Technically argument could be made in reverse (if it's listed outside means they didn't have time to update inside) but whatever.
All in all, whilst the server tried his best, the level of service from leadership is poor and inhospitable and was very visible infront of my and my guest on how they even treat their staff by being aggressive to them in front of guests. Instead of honouring something they have listed, both times I've had to hear a no, whilst the manager claims to "not have time" to update a piece of paper. Drinks are alright of what I remember from the first time but not worth the hassle if service is mediocre.
P.S. There's also a pungent smell in the room, hence low rating on...
