My group and I went to Robson Square Ice Skating Rink on a Friday night. This is an outdoor ice skating rink with a dome overhead to block the rain. The place was nice and had a Christmas tree and lights. The place was crowded with almost 60-80 people. The ice skating rink was relatively small. The staff there were efficient and friendly. There are a limited number of locker spaces at the rink for you to put your extra items for 25 cents.
If you are a new skater, I suggest you go to a bigger ice skating rink or a less crowded one. There are so many people on the rink, from beginners to professionals, that make it someway dangerous if people collided with each other. There are limited numbers of those training carts that you push around if you are a new skater. At the time I was at the rink, there were two staff members watching the patrons and occasionally telling some overall eager skaters to slow down to no avail. There were also a lot of people just hanging around the railings and not skating. If you need to hold on to railings to skate, you will find it difficult...
Read moreThis little covered free outdoor public ice rink at Robson Square in the middle of downtown Vancouver is great for kids & learning skaters to try or practice ice skating in winter when there's ice. There are more than enough plastic skating support frames for the beginners to push around & concrete bench seating on one side for spectators. The ice was resurfaced only once while we there there for about 2h, so it's not the smoothest of rinks out there, but I believe the rougher surface is one of the benefits for beginning skaters providing then with some grip. There's a convenient economical skate rental with several staff offering really decent lace up hard boot skates with an adjoining small cafe for drinks & light snacks. Being so small, there isn't tons of space if it's crowded, but we went on a Tues evening so it wasn't too bad. Our group on the ice ranged from 4 to 40 & the kids had so much fun, they have told me we must return! Get your skates &...
Read moreLove the skating rink both when it is iced and when it is not. Beautiful area to be in. Great atmosphere as long as the drug addicts who often visit are not there. The reason I specially mention the drug addicts is because every time I go there I see individuals passed out with alcohol or drugs on them. It’s a very sad and unfortunate sight. In no way am I trying to demean these individuals, I am simply trying to stated that it is not always a family trip location. The rink is awesome. It’s too bad that there are so many people wanting to enjoy the space as well. When it’s quiet it had the most...
