The Fig Bistro — Restaurant in Vernon

I have had lunch at the Fig twice in the past month so this is a review of both experiences. Great sandwiches, creative and tasty. These are hefty sandwiches, by the way, and not overloaded with huge slices of bread; just enough to hold everything together. So a big yes to the sandwiches. A big yes to the salads, too. Very fresh and full of good stuff. Creative, too. I especially like the Spinach and Mandarin salad. Great taste, lots of nuts, looks like the dressing is made there. As to the soups, I've only tried the tomato-spinach, today. I was expecting a basic tomato soup with spinach perhaps pureed in. Nope, this is a serious broth-based soup with chunks of tomato and spinach. Wonderfully tasty, it will be so good on a cold day. Prices are reasonable, service is quick and friendly. I look forward to trying them for breakfast, next. This is a fine place; I expect I'll be a regular. Update Dec 16, 2022: I have dined at the Fig multiple times in the past year. As before, terrific food so nicely prepared. I just finished a California Bowl for lunch and wow!, Very good! I also sampled the Spicy Mexican Vegetable soup; very tasty and full of chunks of veggies. A delight to my taste buds. With most businesses, you hope they will get it right 100% of the time, and you will never be let down. For myself, I hope that early on I will have them make an error so I can see how they handle their customers in difficult situations. I have been dining in and ordering food from The Fig for three years and earlier this week, I experienced an error. Not a very big deal but they missed adding an item to the order that was an add on for a take out order. I contacted David (the owner) and let him know of the error. He of course apologized for the error and told me they would comp my error item the next time to ensure we were square. I received my order today with a hand written note and a special treat to make up for the inconvenience. While not a big deal to have missing bacon on an order, they took the mistake seriously and made it right immediately. The true character of a business is shown in how fast and how well they make things right.

For close to 10 years I have been enjoy Sprouted fig, I took my oldest daughter when she was young, had them cater my wedding 4 years ago, now take my youngest daughter for soup, enjoy their soup and sandwhich of the day for take out when I work downtown, and try and treat myself as often as I can to those amazing espresso shortbread cookies. The original owners were amazing, but the new ones are bringing a whole new lust for food!
