The Staff and Management at Barb's Fish and Chips sure are not to Friendly. I will say that half of the staff are somewhat friendly. But if you want your Fish cooked the same way you go to a restaurant each time. Than Barb's Fish and Chips is not the place to go. Sometimes the batter on the fish is very soggy. And other times the batter is rock hard. The Management, should teach the staff to cook the fish the same way all the time. And they should cook their chips more. So they are not so soggy either. Never been to a Fish and Chip place before, with such a vary in how they cook their food each time. If you even look at the photos, of the food. They never look the same at all. Some are darkly cooked. And some are lightly cooked. It is just so hard to believe what a difference there has been from 2015 to 2016 with the friendlies of the staff, and management. At Barb's Fish and Chips. I use to like to go down there all the time. But I will never go back there again. I don't understand at all why they have changed so much, in the past year. Last year I enjoyed the staff, and they seemed to get along with me just fine. But it is a totally different story this year, unfortunately, but I don't know why. And because of that I will never go back there again. It is more to do with the staff. Then their food itself, that will keep me away. But there are many other Fish and Chip places to go to that are even friendlier and taste better. Than Barb's Fish and Chip's. The photos of the food should explain it all. Some fish is darkly cooked and some is lightly cooked. Just look at more than 3 photos of their fish, and see if they are cooked the same. One last thing to check out is this. The newer and/or most recent the reviews since June 1/16. The less there is written as a review. They only show the star rating. With nothing at all to say. How could you ever trust those ratings. Would/could you believe, those ratings are from people who really ate at Barb's Fish and Chips. Or is it just the management trying to play games, now? Just like "Dear John", How many people do you know called Dear John? With no written reviews? But the food must be good enough for the seals, as one...

This is my first time writing a negative review about a restaurant, however, in light of the Covid-19 situation, I cannot remain silent for the health and welfare of anyone visiting this establishment. My wife and I visited the restaurant in Victoria on Fisherman's Wharf for the first time.
Firstly I would like to acknowledge that the fish and chips were very good at a fair price. Once we received our order, we sat at the outdoor "picnic table" set up they arranged next to the pickup window. This table is large enough to sit about 6 people. Under NORMAL conditions, other strangers would likely sit at the same table to enjoy their lunch. However, we are NOT LIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS! Another family (multiple generational) decided to make themselves at home with us at the same table. We could tell by their facial and body expressions that they KNEW this shouldn't be done but were going to PUSH themselves on us anyway.
Without saying a word, I walked up to the pickup window and asked the server if the sitting arrangements were for one family only of which she quickly responded yes. I said to her, I do not know these people, and your manager needs to move them now! The young girl looked over her shoulder and called for another worker to come over. NO ONE SHOWED UP TO DEAL WITH THIS MATTER.
I took matters into my hands and asked them to leave our table as they were not abiding by the 2 meter social distancing regulations. Reluctantly they EVENTUALLY moved away and still no staff member came forward to deal with this matter.
This matter is shameful! People that I personally knew have contracted Covid 19 and have died. To see your lack of concern for your customers well being is inexcusable. Regardless of how good your food may be, it certainly is not worth the risk.
After writing this review I fully intend to submit a formal complaint to the local authorities to look further into this matter since your staff are clearly not sufficiently trained to handle the Covid...
Read moreGreetings, hungry wanderers! Allow me to recount my recent pit stop at Barbs Fish and Chips, where I embarked on a culinary adventure with.. mixed results. Now, a fair heads-up before I dive in: my thoughts are EXCLUSIVELY about the chips, as I opted out of trying the "famed" fish.
Picture this: a bustling wharf, sunlight dancing on the water, and the promise of a savory snack. In pursuit of that classic comfort, I opted for a serving of chips. A craving for something crispy and flavorful had me excited. Alas, what I received was a bite of a disappointment.
The chips, unfortunately, were quite uneventful. They lacked the seasoning and kick that I had hoped for. It's as if they decided to skip the flavor party altogether, and go for dull, head on. On top of this, some were undercooked, leaving me with a slightly soggy experience. Not exactly the satisfying crunch I had been anticipating.
Considering the long lines and higher-than-expected prices, my chip adventure left me feeling a tad unfulfilled. After a day of exploring Victoria, I was hoping for a snack that would hit the spot, but it seemed the chips missed the mark.
Now, let's not dwell on the negatives entirely my dear humans. The staff, I must say, were quite amiable and accommodating. Their friendly demeanor did add a touch of positivity to the dining experience.
In the grand scheme of things, my journey to Barbs Fish and Chips ended up being a bit of a mixed bag. While the chips didn't quite deliver the flavor I was after, the overall experience wasn't a complete disaster. Perhaps the fish steals the show here, and maybe next time I'll give it a try. Until then, I'll keep my chip...
