Booyakasha! It’s your main man, Trader Shrimp Daddy, channeling the ultimate Ali G vibes today. Just rolled through Cold Comfort ice cream shop in Victoria, and let me tell you, this place is off the hook, innit? Walkin' in, it’s like entering a frozen wonderland where every scoop is mad ting. The flavors are so banging, they make my taste buds do the electric boogaloo. It’s like they took ice cream and gave it the Ali G treatment—maximum respect! The ice cream? It’s proper phat, bruv. Each bite is like a flavor explosion in my mouth, makin’ me wanna shout, “Respek!” It’s creamier than a cat in a dairy, and the flavors? They’re more diverse than my crew at a rave. And the vibe? Cooler than me in my yellow tracksuit. The peeps there? They treat you like royalty. It’s like, “Is it ‘cause I is hungry?” and they know exactly how to fix that with their epic scoops. If you ain’t been to Cold Comfort, you’re missing out, innit. This place deserves five bling-bling stars, and a big shout out to my peeps for keepin' it real. Get yourself down there and treat your taste buds to the Ali G experience. Big up Cold Comfort, safe!

Cold Comfort Ice Cream was highly recommended to us, since my husband is an ice cream fanatic and I'm dairy-free. We walked over on a very warm day and found this place tucked around the backside of a building in a parking lot. You'd have to know it was back there, but it made it feel like a more local, less touristy place. With a 4.7 rating, lots of locals do know about it. Love their motto: Doing whatever the hell we feel like since 2010. Friendly customer service and they answered questions. I was thrilled to be able to order a small cup (one scoop) of very creamy vegan mint chocolate chip $4 and my husband ordered The Plain Jane ice cream sandwich $8, which was vanilla ice cream in a chocolate cookie sandwich. Very good and I'm so glad we tried this local favorite. Very good prices. They were out of some items, so I'd go early if you have a favorite. Pints also available. They have the cutest delivery vehicle, too.

Cold Comfort is a good place to pick up an ice cream sandwich for a quick fix on your way home, but I would avoid the overpriced scoops. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the sample sizes were tiny, so you can't really know what you're going to get. The ice cream sandwiches were a decent size and are a much better value compared to the scoops. I definitely enjoyed the one that I got (vanilla bean with chocolate chip cookies), but I missed being able to choose my cookie and ice cream combination. The shop didn't have any cones, but I loved that they embraced the reasoning behind it. They are a small operation, so they choose to focus on high-quality ice cream and ice cream sandwiches. The shop is tiny, so it's hard to move around if it's busy. There is some seating right outside, however.

I almost always get a Cold Comfort ice cream cake for my birthday. I see a lot of people complaining about the price of their ice cream, which I don't understand. Cold Comfort creates top quality products from organic, local ingredients, and maintain such a high level of integrity regarding this that I'm honestly surprised they don't charge more. For a large cake I paid $60 and the 7 people at the dinner table could barely finish half of it. I have been snacking on it for days since and am so happy to have leftovers. I don't want it to end!

I requested a mint chocolate cake, but understandably they make their cakes with whatever they have spinning at the time (obviously they can't make 20+ litres of a certain flavour just because ONE person requested it). Because of this I said I'd be happy with salted caramel as well. Cold Comfort far surpassed my dreams for my cake and did a layer of vanilla bean, then a layer of salty caramel sauce, then a layer of mint with chocolate cookie pieces, then a layer of fudge sauce, and finally a layer of caramel topped with burnt sugar and more fudge. Cookie pieces were distributed generously throughout the entire cake. I was extremely impressed.

To Autumn and her team at Cold Comfort, I wanted to thank you for the AMAZING ice cream cake. It was literally the best thing I have ever tasted and such a beautiful work of art. I am so grateful for the thought and time you obviously put into it, we were all extremely wide-eyed and constantly surprised by the incredible flavours and textures and EVERYTHING while we devoured it!

Cold Comfort makes Victoria a lot better.

p.s. For some reason I'm signed in to my friend Tanya's account and I can't figure out how to change it ... this review was actually from Bret, a loyal and extremely satisfied Cold...

Quaint, one of-a-kind, bright, hip vibe walk-up 'n take out serving unique homemade gf, vegan, dairy free and no-worries ice cream and ice cream sandwiches. We ordered Cherry Godmother and Chock o'clock. $12.75 for a pint with half pints available but if you're going to go, why not go all-in. The Chock O 'Clock is worth raving about; creamy, light chocolate and you'd think a pint might get boring because there's nothing else in this dairy delight but it is so smooth, creamy and light milk chocolatey that you wish they had a wooden shovel instead of a wooden micro spoon. The Cherry Godmother was a darker, bitter chocolate with tart cherry surprise. It wasn't quite my taste but it might be someone else's. This business is on the right track with innovative flavours and quality, creamy homemade ice cream. What's missing in my stars-information. I stood reading their homey-feels chalkboard menu and it doesn't do them justice. Great names but few descriptions. I didn't even know they had a donut stuffed with ice cream until I checked out their website later. You need better onsite marketing Can Canteen. .. make your board much larger, add photos and descriptions and your customers will feel like they know what they're getting instead of don't know what they're missing. This would be a cute informal summer date pit stop. It's a parking lot window with limited seating so buy a pint or a half pint and take it to the beach or a park. The heat bounces off the asphalt during a heat dome. So, despite a few tweaks, this little creamery has got the right idea. I would like to give it more stars for the food itself but destinations are about the whole deal-location, experience, accessibility, vibe.... That said, I wouldn't wish for bigger spoons if the ice cream weren't...

Very reluctant and awkward service! :S You're made to feel guilty for asking for a taste of the ice cream! No ice cream place I've ever been to has discouraged tasting. It makes you feel quite unwelcome.

They make some awesome sounding flavours of ice cream, but from a customer's standpoint, you don't want to pay $5-$12 for your ice cream (depending on what you get) only to find that you don't like it!

And yea, it's quite pricey. $5 for a cup, $6 for an ice cream sandwich. $12 for a pint. (It's $9 for a pint at rain or shine in Vancouver for comparison.)

I had the rosemary/cherry ice cream, which was nice, but not something that would bring me back to this place. Another friend got a blackberry flavour and that was pretty good, but not spectacular or deserving of 5 stars.

My friend was disappointed in his chocolate ice cream sandwich, (surprise surprise, he couldn't taste that flavour before buying it). And a few of us found some of the flavours to be pretty bland despite enticing ingredients (like Hoyne's Dark Matter beer).

In sum, this place won't make you feel at home, and the flavours are exotic but underwhelming, especially for the price. I hope they just fix they're customer service and keep trying out new flavours to improve their ice cream. I really like buying from small local places over bigger,...
