Has always been overpriced but it's worse now, and TERRIBLE atmosphere when checking out. They only have self-checkouts now, and I guess that's lead to a lot of losses, because they trying to over-correct by hyper-monitoring the self-checkouts:
The employee directing people to the self checkouts said "that is priced incorrectly" while snatching up the $10.49 scuffed "Call It Spring" boots I'd placed on the self-checkout counter, and passed to the supervisor standing there (already repricing another customer's items they had deemed incorrectly priced at the till as well).
I asked how he knew mine was incorrect, since it was priced that way when I took it from the shelf? And scuffed, and not a great brand? So what made him think it was priced wrong? (To walk around that huge store for over an hour, deciding on which USED items to purchase and trying to add up the math to use a coupon to get the %20 off, because, duh, I'm broke and shopping second hand to save money, so every cent counts, and then have the item I decided was worth my money snatched away when I went to buy it??) The attitude of both employees was dismissive and rude in response to my genuine confusion.
He reluctantly told me the price tag was "in the wrong place on the boot" (the sole, where it actually was able to stick...) and the supervisor insisted on repricing it so the new sticker was on the inside (stuck to FABRIC.. which the new tag didn't stick to... so clearly thats why it wasnt placed there in the first place?).
They ended up keeping it at the same price it was at but it took about 5-10 minutes for me to know this (when they handed them back without saying anything).
The attitude from both employees seemed to be treat every customer as though they are trying to steal from the store. SO dismissive and rude to people trying to shop who were being polite.
Pretty sure Value Village is owned by Walmart? Anyway, rude and costly (those were the cheapest boots I could find and again, scuffed and not great condition) and insensitive to their customers' financial status and stresses.
0/10, WOULD NOT recommend supporting this...
Read more"I have been shopping at value village on the island for 2 years. Never had an issue. All of a sudden I'm being told I'm banned. I called the store manager who was apologetic and was going to have meeting about it. But haven't yet. They refused to let me speak to management. They denied me talking to management. (On the phone with manager leeho he told me to get to the back to get supervisor if i had problems up front) I asked what I allegedly stole they said weve seen it many times. Which fun fact march April and may I was in icu. Not shopping. I said I show you me receipts overtime. Read moreThis post is about Value Village, the Victoria (BC) store. I was there yesterday and was really surprised by the following: Prices - seriously inflated, especially in housewares. Value Village is not the pre-Covid store I remember Cleanliness: the dirtiest store I have ever seen, no exaggeration. The shopping baskets were filthy, as were the floors. I did not check out the change rooms. Obvious dirt everywhere. Made me wonder about any clothing or other items that happen to fall onto the floor. Staff: no complaints there. Very helpful. They deserve accolades for working in such a depressing and potentially health hazardous environment. And a wage increase!
Conclusion: I did eventually find what I was looking for but only after sifting through shelves and racks of overpriced and suspect goods. I saw lots of broken, dirty and damaged items with ridiculous prices. Given the economic downturn we are experiencing, it was not surprising that the store was busy on a rainy Monday afternoon. Value Village is a for-profit US corporation offering a sub-standard shopping experience for customers. It is unclear how much they actually contribute to charity. Even if one does not care about that, there is more 'value' in shopping with and donating to other local thrift stores.
Value Village - you can do (much) better! As a start, try creating a link to 'Contact Us' that...
