East Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Victoria

I have eaten here twice in the past 6 months and both times I really enjoyed the food. This place looks a little bit past its prime and never seems to be busy but the hostess/ server was friendly each time and the food is actually really tasty and is a pretty good value for the price. The chinese and non chinese friends I went with each time also enjoyed their meals and I would recommend giving this place a try if you are in the neighbourhood. There are a lot of menu items to choose from, and almost all of them seem to suit a western palette, yet are more authentically chinese than what you would get from a mall food court. The sweet and sour pork is tender with just a slight crispiness, as it should be, and the vegetables seemed fresh and were flavourful. The water was served luke warm both times, but given that I have been told that the chinese do not like cold water (old belief that it is not good for gut health) I suppose that adds to the experience ;) Overall it was a positive experience both times and I...

Giving one star cause I can't post with zero stars. Do not order from here. New ownership is terrible and rude. I ordered from the menu online and when it got here it was 20 dollars more than it was priced online. They say it's old prices and they don't know how to change it on the website. Bullshit....it's as simple as deleting a picture of the menu. Looks like a scam to me. When I phoned in the guy on the phone did not care what I had to say and did not care that I would not be returning. I even asked if there was a manager and he told me they do not have one. Now onto the food......horribe! I thought the chicken was tofu at first.....that's how spongy of a chicken loaf they use. Absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't even give a 1 out of 10 for this place. A big thank you to the staff of East Garden for absolutely destroying our Christmas dinner this year!! When we called two days ahead of time we were guaranteed our order at a set time. Upon arrival it was apparent that they were only providing orders to skip drivers. Any other person in the restaurant was told their food is not ready, nor would it be for at least 40 minutes. The two girls working the counter giggled to themselves as they watched countless people making upset phone calls to hungry families. You guys need to call people and let them know so they don’t drive across town to pickup food that doesn’t exist. This was the worst customer service I have ever encountered.
