My work colleague rants and raves of this place all the time and had been bugging me to go all these months. I finally did somewhat reluctantly; I had a one-time unpleasant experience eating here with my dad when I was 16 (my older daughter is currently this age just to give you a time stamp) and had bad diarrhea afterwards, nearly missing my first Young Drivers appointment back in the day. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Food quality is okay. The sashimi is fresh but not that huge deal that it melts in your mouth and you must go here now that I read in other reviews. 🤔 As you can see, the presentation for their large assorted sashimi is very lacking; 15 pieces yes, but of very limited type and for the price? Not a good value to the eye of a sashimi connoisseur. My beef teriyaki was overcooked. They asked how I liked it done, I replied medium rare, but dish was medium borderline well done. Service was there but quite slow; we were given the bill but took a very, very long time for them to come back for the POS. I mean, why bring the bill if you're not ready to accept payment right then and there, and made to wait? 🤷🏻‍♀️ No stomach upset this visit which is a plus but even ordering their two biggest entrees, I left the place hungry still and underwhelmed. I feel this place is overhyped, would only go back here with accompaniment, and would most likely order something completely else on the menu. 🙎🏻‍♀️

This place is a Hidden Gem of Victoria! I was recommended this by one of my colleagues and told me that it was where all of the locals go for food. He was right. The service what is very classy and timely. They brought out a warm fresh towel to wash your hands with, and tea at the very beginning and made sure that you were always taken care of in a very timely fashion. To begin with the Miso soup was astounding. Most restaurants water down their miso soup and don't allow any of the real flavour to come through. Clearly Ebizo doesn't do that. They have a great depth of flavour to the paste that they use for their miso and use a lot of it to have a great depth of flavour. Next I have the sushi me which was wonderful. There was a great richness to add and was very high quality. It melted in your mouth as you ate it. There was a great variety and I would highly recommend the platter. However the undeniable Underdog in Winter for me was the tempura. The batter that they used was so light buttery and fragrant. It was unlike any other emperor that I have ever had. And to top it all off they used a variety of vegetables that I've never had contemporary form. They had carrots, potatoes, string beans, mushrooms, and turnips. If you were to go here and this is something that you need to get! If you were in Victoria this restaurant is a must on your list.

We were on our way to a different Japanese restaurant, when we stumbled across this gem along the way! Our meal started with the wonderful roasted aroma of genmai-cha, which we received an entire pot to refill our cups for the duration of our pleasant dining experience. The service was friendly and quick, despite the peak and busy dining time. We were lucky to snag 2 seats at the bar, so we didn't have go wait the 45 minutes for a table. The miso soup is loaded with wakame and tofu, the albacore tuna sashimi just melted in my mouth, and the salmon (probably sockeye?) was also tender and fresh-tasting, although I do prefer Chinook if it were available. I love that the vegetables served with the salmon were steamed to perfextion, so as to leave the slightest crunch to the bite, and served plain to enjoy the natural rich flavors. They kindly cooked the salmon without teriyaki sauce, and instead made it plain with salt and pepper. Their tempura is amazingly crisp and fluffy, just like Japan!!

Having read glowing reviews about this Japanese restaurant in Victoria, I was excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The first challenge was the restaurant's small size, resulting in a wait for a table during lunchtime. Once seated, we encountered delays in receiving service, which significantly impacted our overall dining experience.

We opted for straightforward menu items, hoping for a quick lunch as a lot of time was lost in the wait for a table. I chose the Chicken Teriyaki Don, but to my dismay, it turned out to be rather dry, lacking the expected teriyaki sauce. On the other hand, my dining companion's Beef Teriyaki arrived drowning in an overwhelming amount of teriyaki sauce, creating an extreme imbalance between the two dishes.

Regrettably, the service was quite slow, and it took a notable 20 minutes for our orders to reach the table. Additionally, our water glasses remained unfilled throughout the wait. When my companion requested a fork due to the excessive sauce on his plate, it proved to be a significant challenge to capture the attention of a member of the wait staff to receive one.

In summary, I must admit that the overall dining experience fell short of my expectations. The service and delivery times left much to be desired, and the inconsistency in the preparation of the dishes was disappointing. Consequently, my search continues for a reliable and satisfying Japanese restaurant...
