After having lunch with my dad, we headed towards Fan Tan Alley on Pandora to take a walk- as we got closer, we saw a sign with the name Friends and Family Bake: Spotting the Philippine flag at the shop window, I had to look!
Despite being full from lunch, the aroma as I walked in, and the displays that I saw made my mouth water; I felt nostalgic, seeing a variety of purple-tinted baked goods that made me think of ube. I knew right then I wouldn't be able to resist in buying something.
So I got a cheesy sweet ube bun, which was quite delicious! It may be a little sweet for some, but asking about which ones may have less sugar helped me pick up something for my mom. I definitely will have to come back and sample some more, so I can have a better assessment! For anybody that enjoys baked goods, you gotta try!
Got the chance to chat with (I believe) the owner; they opened earlier this year, in February. Glad to see some shops opening, I've been seeing too many shops close recently.
Highlights: Friendly and welcoming atmosphere Large variety of baked goods: savory, sweet, everything in between Tidy
Things to consider: Not the easiest to find- there is a sign on the sidewalk to help...
Read moreI was expecting just a normal perhaps a little trendy donut shop, and quite honestly I was disappointed at first because I didn’t see the regular selection Boston creams and bear claws etcetera I was expecting from such an establishment. But I decided to try a couple anyway. One was small and purple (made with purple yam apparently) with a sugary glaze and I think margarine, which I know doesn’t sound good but I advise suspending your doubts. The closest thing that I can think of that it comes to in the western world is the seldom seen confection, the butter horn, which is usually served toasted. This little purple donut is not toasted, but they will offer to heat it up for you, and this you must accept. It is gorgeous and delicious. The icing is sweet, gooey, buttery, and soft when heated. The dough is light, fluffy, fresh, and not too sweet. The other donut I had was a small custard filled with a sprinkling of icing sugar on top. The custard was rich and creamy in consistency, and not too sweet, while the donut around it was fresh and light and fluffy. This one was gorgeous and delicious as well. I highly recommend this most unlikely of...
