If You’re Brown-Skinned and Waiting to Order – You Must Be a Delivery Driver
I walked into Tractor Foods on Government Street in Victoria, and for the second time, I was immediately assumed to be a delivery driver—solely because I’m brown-skinned (Indian). I wasn’t carrying a delivery bag, wearing a uniform, or doing anything that suggested I was there for a pickup. The assumption was based purely on my appearance.
This isn’t an isolated incident. It has now happened twice at the same location. Once might be a mistake. Twice is a pattern—and a deeply troubling one.
I came in as a paying customer and expected the same basic courtesy as anyone else. Instead, I was judged, stereotyped, and made to feel like I didn’t belong. That’s unacceptable.
I’m not naming the staff member, because this is bigger than one person. This is about a workplace culture that allows bias to go unchecked. Management needs to take responsibility and ensure their team is properly trained to treat every customer with respect—no exceptions.
Racial profiling has no place in any business. If you can’t see past someone’s skin color, you don’t belong in customer...
Read moreI was with a party of four. Between us, we ordered the stew bowls: turkey chilli, Moroccan chickpea and the braised beef. The only item that came close to being a stew was the Moroccan chickpea. The consensus with this dish was good to very good. The remaining two dishes were more like soups. The turkey chilli was somewhat perfunctory and wouldn’t be my first choice again. The braised beef was bland and not at all appetizing. In both cases, there was far too much water added to the recipe which ultimately diluted its taste. When finished, there was approximately an 1/8th of a cup of watery liquid left in the bowl containing the turkey chilli and as much as a 1/4 cup in the braised beef. It was not a gravy or sauce. If they were, they were the terrible. That atmosphere was somewhat clinical and extremely loud in large part due to the music being so loud. Customers had to talk loud in order to hear one another which made things exponentially worse as more customers arrived. The staff and their service...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place! I walked by it for 3 days and decided to try it on the 4th. I was incredibly disappointed. The service was sub par, the girls working were too busy getting set up for the day that they could care less about those of us there. The tables were all dirty, even though they had just opened. The Matcha latte was pretty, but cold. The food was also cold. I was expecting fresh, homemade hash browns but instead I think they were store bought frozen ones. Either way, they were cold. The sandwich was huge but the only flavour on it was the sauce, which was too much and kinda gross. I pulled the sandwhich apart to eat but it was still disappointing. Two others came to join me and agreed their food was disappointing. As we left I was looking around (bathroom, other tables etc) and realized the entire place was dirty. 😬 The location is good, but I would not recommend having food here. Maybe the...
