I recently had the pleasure of dining at 四季常餐, a delightful eatery located in central Hong Kong. Having visited this establishment on multiple occasions, I can confidently say that it offers a truly satisfying culinary experience. The food is not only delicious but also reasonably priced, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
One of my go-to dishes at 四季常餐 is their cha siu with scrambled egg served over rice. This particular dish is a standout for its exceptional flavor and expertly prepared ingredients. The cha siu, with its tender and succulent texture, is one of the best I have tasted in town. The perfectly scrambled eggs complement the dish, adding a delightful richness that pairs wonderfully with the flavorful cha siu. The combination of the two, served over a bed of steamed rice, creates a satisfying and hearty meal that never fails to impress.
Aside from the delicious food, one aspect that sets 四季常餐 apart is its affordability. Despite the exceptional quality of the dishes, the prices remain reasonable, making it an attractive option for those seeking a satisfying meal without breaking the bank.
However, it is worth noting that 四季常餐 can get quite busy during lunchtime. The popularity of the restaurant means that it tends to attract a large number of diners during peak hours. As a result, securing a table might require some patience or strategic timing. Nonetheless, the bustling atmosphere can also add to the overall charm and authenticity of the dining experience.
In conclusion, 四季常餐 in central Hong Kong offers a delightful culinary journey with its delicious and affordable dishes. The cha siu with scrambled egg and rice is a standout choice that showcases the restaurant's expertise in flavor and preparation. While the lunchtime rush can be a bit overwhelming, the overall experience and quality of the food make it well...
Read moreI read some reviews that said the food at this place was better than ADC. After trying the food here, I think those reviews are likely paid-content nonsense. There is NO way the food and drink are comparable, although the service is equally rude at both places.
The milk tea has a distinct, horrible, detergent taste. Spoke to one of the waitresses and asked her (politely) to help us replace with a new tea. However, instead of solving the problem, the waitress kept asking if we had already placed an order and kept repeating that everyone seated must order. We're not sure if the waitress was under stress, but everyone felt uncomfortable because it felt like we were being blamed for not ordering when we already did.
The char siew macaroni is, by far, the worst we have tried in Hong Kong. The stock tasted unnaturally milky with a fake chemical/powder-based chicken smell, almost like a diluted Campbell's chicken soup. The char siew was a bit on the sweet side and the texture felt like they've been boiled for awhile - there's no char siew "mouth feel" or chew to the meat.
The scrambled egg wasn't too bad - I didn't like that the eggs were liquid-wet rather than eggy-wet, but at least the fake chicken stock they added to the egg tasted ok.
I honestly doubt we will ever be back. Maybe we should have ordered the fancy fried rice, but after this poor experience, we won't want to put ourselves through the trauma especially when there are so many other good things...
Read moreThey have the most simple menu. I tried a few things, cha sui (sweet BBQ pork), scrambled egg rice, tomato soup beef macaroni, scrambled eggs with toast, and Hai Nan Chicken rice.
I got to say the scrambled egg is to die for, which makes the Cha Sui scrambled egg rice an unbeatable choice. I would choose it over many other options in Central. It sounds weird, but the sauce, the rice, and the spring onion were supposed to be the background of the dish, but they stand out to me the most. I love the flavour and the texture of the whole dish.
The toast in one of the meals looks slightly burnt, but it’s absolutely fabulous. It’s hot, crispy, buttery (it doesn’t have that weird fake buttery flavour).
I also enjoy their hot milk tea very much; strong and smooth.
Their other dishes are okay, a bit of forgettable meals. I am glad that the first time I came here, I ordered their scrambled egg Cha Sui; it is my motivation for...
