The star street area has been always my favorite zone in my mind, never get bored to explore something new here.
The Korean style restaurant located in Sun street, next to the staircase is almost the last one I have never had a chance to experience in that particular of zone.
I love the shopfront, to be frank, very attempting and perfectly dissolved as an entrance to sun street . The menu is very clean and simple, not offering any sets, a la carte is the only option.
There was almost no greeting while I get through the door and Male staff only pointed to me to a place next to two strangers considering still many seats available in the restaurant.
I have picked the beer soup and all goes great except the proactiveness of serving the free appetizers as i have none of it until I asked if I will have as all of the rest customers got some plates of it? What's even worse ? One appetizer is then served and apparently it should be more than one and served before the main as a welcome food just like other Korean restaurants. The waiter replied me that "You want one more?" I was like what? Is it not included and feeling extremely confused and I wish the in charge could explain a bit more.
The CP value is definitely not up to the par while the attractiveness is never on the same page to CP value. I do not recommend someone to have meal alone but with friends...
Read moreDanji is a fairly new modern Korean place that opened up in the Starstreet Precinct last year. They have a small indoor seating area so potentially worth making reservations to secure a table if wanting to dine during peak meal times.
During our lunch we tried their spicy baby octopus that was just ok. Veg ingredients were just fine and we liked the spicy sauce. Unfortunately the baby octopus was very hard and chewy. Was like chewing on rubber at times, just no tenderness at all. This dish they could improve fairly easily.
The spicy Korean chicken (5 piece) was sort of good with caveat. We didn't care for the heavy breading and the chicken had way too much fat on it. Would have been so easy to cut this off prior to frying but I suppose that would have made the pieces much smaller. As a positive, the meat was tender and succulent and the spicy flavour was very good. Didn't care at all for the heavy breading and fat but the meaty parts were really good so a mixed bag with this order.
Lastly, we found their bibimbap to be really good. This was a generous portion and ingredients including quinoa, egg and lots of greens were all very fresh, complementing the bulgogi beef nicely. The sauce wasn't as spicy as we would have preferred but flavoured the dish well without an overpowering effect. On the whole, this was a bibimbap, something we'd be glad to...
Read moreWe came here with a craving for Korean fried chicken and ordered the "spicy" fried chicken and were very much let down. Overall the experience was mediocre. Getting seated and settled into our table could be described as a bit chaotic; 2 other tables were seated shortly before and after us. The staff gave menus to both of the tables but not us, even the table that sat down after us. We did not get a menu until we asked the staff and were handed 1 single menu whereas other tables has 1 per person. When I asked for a 2nd menu, the staff asked and took a menu from the table adjacent to us to hand to me which is awkward. The restaurant was not even full and it appears that they don't even have more than 7 menus for patrons. The grilled shortrib was tasty, but for $400 I have higher expectations for both taste and portion. The "spicy" fried chicken was not at all spicy. The chicken itself has minimal coating so it was not crispy. The glaze was more of a sauce, too wet which added to the lack of crisp. Feels like the fried chicken was an afterthought on the menu. The music was far too loud given the small space and bright lighting. Looking around, you could see that every table was leaning in to speak to each other to be heard...
