Second time to this place. The first wasn't bad but had some similar vibes to the second which was a pretty cold experience. The staff ignored us at the counter for almost 5 minutes, even though they were standing directly in front of us. They couldn't even muster a "Hello I'll be with you in a few minutes". When they did take our order they just looked at us without engaging. We asked if a particular type of coffee was a double shot or single, which was replied that it can be either. They then charged us for 2 drinks with extra shots and added on 10hkd each for the extra shots... even though only one of us wanted an extra shot. All this could have been avoided if the person working was in the slightest bit interested or passionate about hospitality and had engaged with us. We felt completely unwelcome as if we were putting them out.
The space is nice and gives off a warm feel but the whole experience was sterile due to the coldness of the staff. We had planned on chilling there for a while but got out as quickly as we could when our coffee eventually arrived (an unusually long wait). The coffee itself was decent but cost just under 100hkd for 2. With soo many other good coffee shops in the area, offering the same style of coffee at a significantly cheaper price, it seems a bit expensive.
I haven't tried the food so cannot comment on that however people tell me it is good.
Overall it was a real let down. I believe the owners have experience in the industry and understand it can be hard to find the right help however I have read a few reviews now about the poor service and I hope...
Read moreI came to Detour 07.10 (11:30am) for breakfast and had one of the most unpleasant service experiences I’ve had in a long time. I politely asked if they could keep my egg in the water for just 2 extra minutes coz I dont like raw center in eggs— nothing complicated. The girl was literally boiling the eggs at that moment, but both staff members looked at me with such disdain, as if I had asked for something absurd.
They said, “Oh, sorry, that’s not according to our rules, we can’t do that,” and then their whole attitude changed. The girl started avoiding an eye contact, saying “we don’t do this, sorry” without even looking at me, while the guy at the counter just stood there, both acting like I’d done something wrong or I am stupid. It was cold, dismissive, and made me feel really uncomfortable — I couldn’t believe how unkind they were over such a small, reasonable request.
It’s a real shame, because the place itself is clean and cozy, but the attitude completely ruined the experience. I hope the manager teaches the staff that in hospitality, a bit of flexibility and basic respect go a long way — especially when there are so many other breakfast...
