This is stop #20 on the Western District and Peak Heritage Trail (route B). Constructed in 1892, the old mental hospital ceased serving hospital related services in 1971. It was then redeveloped in 1998 into the Sai Ying Pun Community Complex. However the old 19th century facade was left in tact and preserved. What you see now are two levels of granite block and arch facade with pediment, parapets and two lovely colonial era verandahs with green iron railings.

It really is a creepy place even standing outside. I didn’t go in so I can’t give a better review. The feeling is quite different standing in the dead end street in the first photo compared to looking at it standing on High Street. It’s a famous haunted house, now a community centre.
