Let me start with cons: The Sai Ying Pung MTR station entrance was close but it's actually quite a long walk to the MTR. The entrance to the hotel has been moved to the side of the building (it used to have one on the main road). The ground floor has now been converted to an eatery. The pavement is uneven and there is no cover in the alley towards the entrance. I got wet from the rain when we arrived. There was an elderly man as the security guard, who guided us to take the lift to the lobby to check in. Check in was prompt and smooth as there was only a couple before us. The unit was great like before (this is my 2nd stay) we stayed 3D2N the cleaner service was very friendly and quick service. The beds, pillows, bathrooms, towels and carpet feel clean and no smell. Things provided included all the toiletries, bottled water in the fridge, tissue, slippers, etc. Check out was smooth as there was no other people at the lobby. As for food, don't expect too many choices as it is not exactly a touristy spot. But there's a good and spacious dim sum restaurant opposite the road at 1 level up from the Jockey Club. We ate there twice. There are popular shops for wantan mee and beef noodle nearby but not exactly walking distance. Wellcome located about 5-10 mins walk so it was convenient to grab extra water or snacks. Whether to stay there again, will depend on the price. This 2nd stay for the same unit is much more expensive than the 1st one many years ago. The reason we chose here again for the cleanliness and amenities that they offer.

Overall good experience as the location is just beside the MTR station. Clean and comfy bed, pillow and housekeeping is done everyday basis. Lobby is located at the 7th floor and guest rooms are from 8th floor onwards. There is someone always in the reception but hardly interact unless you ask for something. I find only person is friendly named Tom Cheung from the security team and you will find him at the ground floor during the daytime. Wifi is good but depending upon the room location, could be weaker signal. I was there for a week and the last day AC wasn't working, hence I had to checked out early because the whole floor was suffocating and humid. Also, there is no such option for having breakfast near by apart from a small cafe. If you have any heavy bags try to use A1 exit from the MRT since you will get a lift from the MTR to the street level. Also there is a small park adjacent to the hotel. Bus stop and ding-ding stop connecting to the city as well as Kennedy Town right next to the hotel.

I’m giving 5 stars for the friendly service and accommodation of letting us borrow the electric adapter since we mistakenly thought HK used the same outlets as China. Also, we were fortunate they put us up on the 23rd floor so we didn’t hear the street noise from below. I want to comment on all the other reviews in regards to the MTR. After taking the subway for most of our tourist visits, I’ve come to realized that almost all of the stations in HK are steep and long because they have numerous exits and maybe because of all the skyscrapers above need deep foundations, so the MTR stations have to go even deeper; therefore it is not just the Sai Ying Pun station where the hotel is located. This is just my thought and observation, since I am not familiar with the other territories in Hong Kong.

Before booking, please be aware of the following :

Note that the notes below were written after a 3-week-long mandatory quarantine stay following a trip abroad.

Room size 16 sqm (actual size) for the price of 220 sqft, with pillars and curbs strongly affecting the floorplan, with 2 single beds, is small and does not let you have much space for exercising...

Wifi Slow (speed test : 2.8Mbps up and down !) and often broken down. Not reliable for Work From Home activities. Make sure to have an effective data-packed mobile plan and make use of your own hot-spot. The staff rests the wifi router on demand but it is seldom stable for more than a couple of hours.

Delivery The hotel accepts to bring to your room any food or light parcel delivered to the lobby. Take advantage of this because the service provided by the hotel is very limited (see below) !

Bed and linen The bed mattress is 100% wrapped in a noisy plastic foil. Pillows are also fully covered with a noisy plastic wrap inside their cases. The mattress is covered with ikea's basic mattress protective cover, the one held with rubbers in the angles and that creases everywhere. Bed linen is guaranteed 1st price selection, partly synthetic fabric. Bath towels can be quite used : some unravel and fray on the sides (yet not all). No holes but fingers entangling in threads happens regularly.

Windows 3 out 4 windows (angle room) are locked. The staff would not provide a handle or tool to open them. No way to have some air flow through the room, unless you manage tool delivery.

Cleaning No cleaning or laundry services... and limited means to do the cleaning yourself : soap bars are supplied on demand. No toilet brush. No cleaning products, wipes or cloth. No vaccum cleaner or broom, not even to lend. No wire or hanger to dry your laundry after hand washing. Please consider this situation in case of mite or dust allergies.

Communication with staff Communication between staff and resident through WhatsApp, due to a broken room phone.

Food and beverages 2 complimentary 25cc bottles of water for a 3-week-long stay. Weekly meal selection : for each meal, choices among 2 dishes and 2 or 3 paper-packed drinks (room temperature Hong Kong style milk tea, coffee or sweet soy milk). No plain water or juice available. Whatever the choice, rice will be included in every single meal : breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't expect continental breakfast or similar fancy dish. Fresh veggies and fresh fruit offered only once a week. Weekly meal delivery time selection : breakfast offered at 8 or 10, lunch at 11:30 or 14 and dinner at 18 or 19. But times can vary up to 1:15 hour before or after the selected times. I happened to get breakfast at 9:15 and the following lunch at 11:25. Your weekly selection (menu, drink and delivery time) is carried over from one week to the next and difficult to change : it took 3 days to effectively change the breakfast drink on the menu. Cutlery is restricted to disposable chopsticks, a disposable plastic chinese soup spoon and paper glass. No lending of a steel knife : you need to peel the weekly orange with your fingers and cut the food you order for delivery with whatever tool you brought. Yet, sturdy cutlery can be ordered in HK...

Stayed from: Sept 2- Sept 10, 2025

Recently I returned to this hotel again.

Hotel Eco Tree Sheung Wan truly exceeded my expectations once again. My room (1305) was very comfortable and cleaned every single day. Everything about this hotel feels just right.

Location: Superb! It’s right next to Sai Ying Pun MTR station, only a 2-minute walk to the tram stop, and the bus stop is also very close by—perfect for exploring Hong Kong.

Service: The front desk staff are simply amazing and are the greatest assets of this hotel. Please never let them go! A special shout-out to Stephanie, who kindly helped us arrange a taxi and even brought us cans of water to ensure we stayed hydrated while waiting outside in the hot Hong Kong weather. That thoughtful gesture really touched us.

Housekeeping: The cleaning lady deserves recognition as well—our room was always spotless and perfectly maintained every day without fail.

Overall: Will we return? Absolutely, without a doubt! This is already our second stay at Eco Tree Sheung Wan, and once again, we were never disappointed. Highly recommended! ≈======================== Dear Eco Tree Hotel,

I am writing to convey my gratitude for the excellent customer service I experienced at hotel. I stayed at your property from August 5 - August 15, 2024, and was lucky enough to encounter one of your employees, Mr. Tom Cheung (Daytime Security Guard). Throughout my visit, He was very courteous and helpful. He gave us lots of beautiful tips and went out of his way to offer us with some help. He showed us where to find good local foods and how to navigate the neighbourhoods to find what we needed. His proficiency in English is truly a big asset to the hotel for finding local information. I noticed that He would greet everyone who comes to the Hotel and always offer help whenever he could. He absolutely provided a level of service that truly exceeded my expectations and made me feel valued as a customer. Please pass on my appreciation to him for providing such an excellent outstanding customer service.

Small notes for the night guard - please do not smoke right by the entrance as it makes the hotel ground floor entrance smells unpleasant (=cigarette smell) as this hotel should be a smoking free environment.

Also the cleanliness of the hotel needs to be improved especially when checking in on that day, I found the room to be dusty and found couple of hairs in the washroom which made me wonder if my room was cleaned beforehand.

All in all, the hotel itself is very central within easy reach of shops, eating places and mtr, trams, buses and the Central Station to Airport Express. I will certainly be back."

Yours...

The room I stayed in was very good, clean and decent sized by HK standards. Service was also good and the staff were responsive. As other reviewers say, there are plenty of places for food and refreshment nearby, as well as a 24-hr laundromat (with return service in 3-4 hours depending on when the clothes are dropped off), which is extremely convenient for travellers on long trips.

One suggestion is for the management to install electric sockets which will accept USB cables (particularly near the bedside tables), which is a universal need in today's world of electronic devices which require charging.

The rating would have been higher if not for the one significant disadvantage, which is the hotel frontage. There is literally NO place that one can get off a car or taxi in front of the hotel, which is slap bang alongside Des Voeux Rd West, with mostly pedestrian barriers and a double yellow line on the road. The road is very busy most times, with vehicles of all sorts, including large buses, so I could not get my taxi driver to stop in front, let alone unload my luggage. I was dropped off at the next intersection, Eastern Street and had to leave my wife looking after the bags while I went to see the people at Reception. They justified this saying that vehicles can make 'quick' stops (which would in fact be illegal, given the double yellow line) and also saying it was a "Boutique Hotel" and so did not have either luggage carts or bell service, which I found totally strange. Luckily, an assistant at the front desk volunteered to accompany me to help with my luggage. My thanks to him.

It wasn't easy to find my way in either, because the Reception is on the 7th Floor and the entrance to the hotel is either via a small and busy coffee shop/restaurant, or via a small side street lined by vendors selling pungent dried fish, among other delicacies. In addition to this, the side door is closed and locked at 10:30 p.m., so the only way out is via the circuitous route to and from the coffee shop. I wonder whether this can pose a hazard during an emergency evacuation at night (should there ever be one), and perhaps the HK Tourism Authority and the City Planners should be alerted by management to check this out and hopefully give the hotel a clean...
