For Kee is a family restaurant which has a long history in Sheung Wan district. Every time when I walk past it, I would love to check out how their cats are doing.
I never got a chance to try out their food, as its opening hours don’t quite match with my schedule. Finally, I got to try it out after watching an early drama in Central.
On the day of my visit, the shop cat had a great time sleeping in the sun.
And the signature Pork Chop Rice really lives up to its fame. It’s freshly made upon ordering, so be patient and wait for the good stuff.
There was a thin layer of transparent sauce on top. My friend and I thought it was oil at first, but it didn’t taste like so. More like delicious, thin sauce. Very nice to go with the rice and pork chop.
The pork chop was definitely superb! Right thickness and tenderness to make it easy to bite and chew. Very flavored but won’t make you feel thirsty after eating it. Very addictive indeed!
The rice was flavored with the aromatic soy sauce. Again, rightly flavored and won’t make you feel thirsty.
Everything is just so right to the point and enjoyable! I should have tried it out earlier! Now I will grab every chance to have this delicious pork...
Read moreKnown for its iconic pork chop rice, For Kee is the CCT (cha chaan teng) to go for local comfort food when you’re in Sheung Wan.
There was a long line of regulars and tourists when we came for late lunch, but luckily the queue moved quite quickly. All the staff were really friendly and accommodating - plus there’s even an English menu for foreigners.
[Pork Chop Rice] The pork chop was ridiculously tender and substantial while I absofreakinlutely LOVE soy sauce on plain old white rice. Our only complaint is that they could have added in some veggies to make this a more balanced meal.
[Tomato & Beef Noodle] Tbh we were a little disappointed by this as the tomato soup was not rich nor flavorful enough. It’s best to stick to Sing Heung Yuen instead (just a 7-min walk away)
[Condensed Milk & Peanut Butter Toast] I was craving for something sweet to end our meal, but I accidentally mixed up regular toast with French toast when ordering. Oh well, I still enjoyed the thick crunchy bread coated with sweet condensed milk and peanut butter. Apparently you can get all 4 toppings (butter and jam) if...
Read moreService was a turn off, such that we decided not to patronise the stall at all even though we made a trip over specially for it. Staff was impatient and rude.
We were there as a pair on an off-peak hour (3PM on a weekday). Upon placing our order for 1 pork chop rice with egg, the staff rudely insisted that we had to order at least one more dish (so min. 1 dish per person). We explained that we would not be able to finish and did not want to waste food. The staff insisted we had to either order more, or do take away instead.
^ We decided not to proceed because of the attitude. When we were there, there was no queue, stall was not busy, with several available seats. There was also no minimum spend notice in the shop to make things clear.
Impression: As some earlier reviews had indicated, go if you want service with attitude. Wish to highlight our experience in a review so that future patrons are prepared that they may need to order a certain amount of food to satisfy the stall’s...
