We stayed a couple nights at The Jervois in Sheung Wan and enjoyed our stay. This is more of a a serviced apartment ++ than traditional holiday and a good overall property option for tourist and business visitors to Hong Kong.
We made reservations directly on the Jervois website a couple days before our weekend stay. Booking confirmation was received instantly and we were well received upon arrival. Staff are dressed in black suit attire and more professional than what you expect at most hotels.
Suites are spacious and boutique-functional instead of luxurious. They are large in total space size (60 square metres) with tightly-configured yet nicely laid out rooms. Our suite included a small kitchen, living room with a nice sofa, small table and chair. Good lighting throughout with floor-to-ceiling windows providing full views of the Sheung Wan area.
Bedroom included plenty of closet and drawer space, bed was very comfortable with super soft pillows. Bathroom spacious enough, shower water pressure was very good.
Suite included safe, flat screen television. A/C and Wifi worked perfectly throughout our stay. Our stay came with Welcome drinks and breakfast vouchers at the eatery called The Cottage next to The Jervois. Our welcome drink (Cab and Merlot) were poor but the two breakfasts were quite good. See separate review for The Cottage for specifics.
Property location is very good, right on the corner of Jervois and Cleverly. There are restaurants, coffee shops and bars in pretty much all directions and you are less than 5 minute walk to the Sheung Wan MTR Station.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Jevois. This is a well-located and overall nice property, an enticing option for short and longer term stays for those interested in serviced apartments instead of traditional hotel accommodations during stays...
Read moreI had an amazing three-week stay at The Jervois last year, which prompted me to book again this year. However, I have noticed a significant decline in the hotel's quality since my last visit.
Previously helpful, the front desk staff has become confrontational. Just last night, they informed us that we couldn't have two guests over, even though the paperwork we signed clearly stated otherwise. After reviewing the paperwork with the staff, it became evident that we were indeed allowed to have two guests. The receptionist then claimed that this information was sent via email or available online, but after spending more time searching, we couldn't find any evidence to support her claim. Eventually, she allowed our friends to come, but this unnecessary ordeal wasted ten minutes of my precious time in Hong Kong.
Furthermore, the furnishings in the hotel are starting to show signs of wear and tear. The couch is visibly sunken in, and the stoves have been removed from the rooms.
On another occasion, when I requested some water bottles, the staff informed me that they were no longer able to provide them due to a new Hong Kong policy. However, I noticed a water bottle sitting in the garbage next to the staff member's desk, contradicting their previous statement.
Overall, I am disappointed with the decline in service and maintenance at The Jervois compared to my...
Read moreThe Pros: Pillows were soft which are to my liking. Firm pillows are also available upon request. Bed is comfortable. Spacious room with high windows. Love the couch and work table/shelf. Sound proofing of the room is good. There were only 1 to 2 rooms on each level so noise isn’t a concern.
Staff are friendly and helpful! Upon check in, one of the staff showed us to our room and showed us how to use the free phone which you can carry around in HK as well as a short introduction of where the amenities are. When we were checking out, the staff on duty helped us to get our luggage onto the shuttle bus.
Loccitane amenities, nespresso machine, free soft drinks /water/tea were provided. There’s also a free shuttle bus to the airport right outside the hotel. Short walk to Central and all the nice restaurants and cafes. Sheung Wan MRT station was just 7mins walk away. Would return and stay at The Jervois again.
The not so fab: Light was still coming through the edges of the curtains in the morning. Bathrobe wasn’t readily available but a call to the reception fixed that. Tiny lobby. There’s only one chair available and not much space for you to walk. But it wasn’t an issue for me. Not much of a view as all you see are tall dilapidated buildings...
