Grappa's is one of the city's longest standing Italian restaurants having served diners for 30 years now. They are now located along Queen's Road East in front of the Pacific Place Three building in Wanchai. There is a nicely decorated and fair sized seating area. You can also order take-away and delivery if you prefer to take your meals from within the comfort of area of your area office, home or hotel. Opening hours are 11.30am to 11pm.
Dining environs are a grade or two above casual at Grappa's. While there is no dress code, you can expect to find quite a few dressed business casual, particularly during lunch when area office workers frequent the restaurant. Menu is a typical range of expected Italian dishes.
I recently had take-away from Grappa's which was prepared and ready in just under 20 minutes. On the occasion, I ordered the Penne Arrabbiata. The whole wheat pasta had a nice texture. The sauce was decent, a bit bland and no spiciness but overall a fair sauce. Portion size was larger than what I find at other quality Italian restaurants around the city.
In the end, Grappa's is a safe 'good' bet for Italian here in Hong Kong. You can definitely do better if you want a nicer Italian meal but for the price, you can expect a pretty decent meal...
Read moreHorrible experience. I normally don't write reviews but a recent unpleasant experience compelled me to write this review. In fairness to Grappas, I have had incredibly pleasant experiences on previous visits.
On this most recent occasion, I had placed a pickup order on Deliveroo and was told to come in 20 minutes to pick it up. After 20 minutes, I arrived at the restaurant and told employee A (male) my pickup order number. Employee A curtly told me the order wasn't ready yet and that I should wait. After 15+ minutes of waiting, employee B (female) happened to come by and asked us if we were waiting for something. We gave her our order number, and lo and behold, my pickup order had been ready and right there the entire time. I had been waiting for no reason at all, and by then the food had gotten cold. Employee B was very apologetic, but when I approached employee A to ask why he didn't check or tell us the food was there when we arrived, he just shrugged his shoulders and didn't seem to care.
This was incredibly frustrating. If not for employee B intervening, we could've been waiting for a lot longer and all unnecessary, and with a cold dinner. All we ask for is some basic customer courtesy and this problem would have...
Read moreOrdered a ‘no 2’ pizza, a Caesar salad, lasagne and some ‘gelato’ for desert.
The number two pizza (and apparently it’s just this one) is served on a very disappointing cardboard like base (without warning in the description.
The lasagne was served lukewarm and with the pasta layers very mushy where you couldn’t differentiate between pasta and cheese, tase not bad but lasagne should have the feeling of really being piping hot and crispy out of the oven.
The gelato, was not gelato. It was ice-cream. Feels kind of fraudulent that they advertise it as gelato at a price that is worth paying for gelato but then serve solid, unsmooth ice-cream that you could buy in 7-11 around the corner at 10% of the price.
All in all, I wouldn’t go back as the price is comparative to genuinely decent Italian restaurants but the food here...
