Languid Lunch Bunch
It filled us up and fuelled us for the afternoon. That’s what my colleagues and I concluded after grabbing the lunch set here at Grill 28. A perfectly serviceable meal that was lacking in a few areas. Here’s the lowdown.
Things started off great! I grabbed the quinoa and feta salad with dashes of juicy beetroot. Simply sublime and a perfect compliment for the gorgeous sunny weather. My 2 fab colleagues had the Caesar salad. Also a big thumbs up. And so, too, from the bread. Light and crumbly texture with the right amount of crunch. Lunch was on a roll. That was, until the mains arrived.
1 colleague and I had the pasta of the day, this time the (barely/lightly) seasoned tortellini being complimented by chicken. It was alright. The amount was more than substantial for lunch. Just lacked flavour. My other colleague, however, had the fish, and well…
She was disappointed. Too wet and tepid. And not in the freshly caught sense of wet. Sure, she ate most of it, but this was no catch of the day. But the veggies, apparently, were nicely cooked, so there’s that.
Overall, a decent lunch spot. The staff were attentive during this busy period, and as we were sitting outdoors, the environment was lovely. Comfortable chairs, too! Would go back to try their evening offerings, but for lunch, I’d hesitate if...
Read moreI sat outside of the restaurant in the beginning for a drink. They have torch patio heaters near the table I sat and have been keeping me warm. It was quite relaxing sitting at the patio with my red wine chatting with my friends. They had a promotion of buying a drink and get a second one for free.
When it's dinner time, I moved back inside the restaurant. They have interesting paintings inside the restaurant. There were complimentary bread and I ordered a steak cooked in medium well. It came with fries and some side vegetables. The portion was big. It could feed two people. The taste was good, especially the sauce for the steak which lightened the dish up and served like the soul of the dish. The restaurant was also playing soft music , a mixture of Christmas songs and other soft music (don't remember if it's jazz) but serves well in a relaxed meal and the festive season!
For dessert, I had a slice of tiramisu cake . It was good wrap up for my dinner! The only negative point which is a minor issue that I have is the restroom is outside the restaurant and I had to walked outside of the restaurant. Nevertheless, this is a nice...
Read moreWe went for (still there at the time of posting) the company Christmas dinner. Great service. The food was all great (I had the Smoked Duck Breast Salad and the Lamb Fillet, and they were really delicious 😋) and perfectly prepared, except for the dessert. They gave us each a slice of their "Banana Caramel Cake", basically a banoffee pie, but taller in cake form. Unfortunately, it was terrible. The thick cream layer on top tasted horrible. Not only was it completely unsweetened (it would be ok if that was the only issue), but it had a very off and slightly bitter taste as if the milk used to make the cream had gone bad (a slight baby vomit smell). We all looked at each other with puzzled faces in disgust. The rest of the dessert was fine (banana, crust, ice cream). Our company rep complained, but we were told that it was freshly made and it is fine. Every single person (23!) complained about it and most plates went back barely touched 🤢
Sorry, the food was great, but the dessert ruined the meal, especially since it was the...
