New Bangkok Restaurant — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

I live in the UK, but visited the restaurant many times during my residency in HK two years. Everyone who knows me, will say I am the harshest critic when it comes to Thai food; as I not only have a Thai parent but have spent a lot of time in different parts of Thailand to have developed a taste for the cuisine.

Having eaten in Thai restaurants in several countries I still haven't found ONE outside of Thailand (even in the UK) whose cooking comes close to the standard of that at the New Bangkok. Elsewhere, if not bland as newspaper leaves a lot to be desired (e.g. too sweet or sour, loaded with MSG etc).

The restaurant itself it small (on two levels) but cosy, and possesses a warm enough atmosphere that you forget where you are. They are proof that you don't have to spend $$$ to have a good meal out. The staff are also always very friendly and as in traditional Thai style, go out of their way to be accommodating.

Had lunch there during the weekdays so it was extremely busy. We were lucky got a table but my baby had to sit on our laps.

The lunch set is very cheap compare to other place in this area and it comes with a drink which you could choose some special Thai drinks.

We ordered the chicken rice and soup noodles with beef.

The chicken rice - it was average, the rice lack of flavours and the soup wasn’t up to the standard. But the chicken was tender.

The beef noodles - I thought they Simply put water as soup, not even a drop of salt let alone flavouring. So I had to ask for the “Thai sauces” 4 little tubs in a tray, very common in Thailand at the noodles stand. Even added those I still couldn’t finish my small bowl of noodles as I have completely lost...

Very authentic and homey Thai restaurant at CWB / Wan Chai area. Have visited this for many times and it never disappoints me! The Tom yum is the best I have in HK so far. The staff are Thai who are always nice and friendly. They always give us free coconut milk and pandan layered cake as dessert and they are AMAZING!
