My family had eaten breakfast and lunch here before, as it is a few doors from our flat, and we always see the Michelin signs. Those meals were okay, though not very comfortable as the place was crowded and we had to share tables.

When some friends suggested having dinner here, we were quite keen as we had not tried their dinner menu. They do have an English menu, so do ask for that if needed.

We ordered several dishes, including pork rib with gourd soup, which had quite a rich broth. There was also a plate of steamed razor clams, which was very fresh, tofu with crispy pork, as well as their signature chicken dish. Our favourite dishes were actually braised eggplant in claypot and steamed pork patty, both of which went very well with rice.

Service was friendly as the owners and staff, particularly the Nepalese server, knew our friends, who had eaten there several times in the preceding weeks.

Reservations are essential, and we saw several groups being turned away due to the...

Worth looking up this spot! Great meal!

We went to Shek Kee Kitchen on our first night in HK, after friends had recommended their food. No fuss. No frills. Service is HK style, actually pretty decent. They were busy. We went around 5:30pm and got a table, ordered a few known dishes. We really wanted to try their “crispy chicken” but alas… it requires a reservation ahead of time.

A family of four, with 2 hungry teens… so we got Chinese broccoli with beef, sautéed beancurd ong-choy (in season!), salt & pepper squid, steamed eggs with minced pork and a steamed half chicken in broth. Wiped it all clean.

Everything was delicious, high wok-hay, well-seasoned and just right… which we know it’s missing in a lot of Chinese places at home.. sadly even in some good restaurants. A little pricier than your average dinners but I think the taste...

This is really local Hong Kong Cantonese diner. As local as it gets. The luncheon crowd are here for a budget lunch that is nevertheless competently cooked and value. The dinner is where the action is. I don't think any of the menus are in English and overseas guests will definitely need a bit of help navigating the many menu items. The best way is not bother and ask for recommendations. The book cuisine is not the super formal banquet dishes, but the nice everyday dishes really done well with considerable skills. Again, if you are not familiar with Cantonese cuisine then ideally you should go with someone who is. The prices are not low for such a dumpy looking place but you can pay a lot more elsewhere...

It’s always listed on Michelin’s Bib Gourmand restaurant list, but the restaurant des not carry the vibes of attracting clients. It’s dark and old and the staff are not that motivated in service. They open from lunchtime to night time. For their signature dishes. you’d need to book in advance. Let’s say the deep fried chicken, the octopus cake etc. you’d not get their signature dishes over the lunch time since they only serve simple set lunches. Staff were not energetic and not carrying much smile. I didn’t get it why is listed on the Bib Gourmand because even a simple stirfry beef noodle or fat or flat noodle is charged HKD188. How could it be in the Bib Gourmand list.
