Urban Coffee Roaster CWB — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

Given the location and presentation I had expected more.

It appears cozy and comfortable at first, but for me the illusion was quickly over.

I had a regular coffee that wasn't particularly good. For the size and quality, very overpriced. I also wanted something light to eat, and I ordered a soup. Taste wise it was delicious, but again, a tiny bowl with a few spoonful of soup was horrendously overpriced.

On top of that, there is a 10% service charge... you order online after scanning a qr code, and pay at the cashier. The only "service" I got was someone putting drink and soup on the table with barely a word. Sorry, that's not worth 10%.

2 stars max for the experience. It was below expectations, even below average.

But the 1 star is because I was disgusted. At some point I felt tiny drops of water on my arm. At first I didn't see/notice anything. But then I saw a drop of aircon water drip directly into the soup. I had been "enjoying" and overpriced bowl of aircon run-off. My stomach revolted and I just paid and left. No way I'm...

Menu was changed this time. Many of my favourite were gone. Many options were also unavailable. What a shame. Ordered the banana and nutella pancake and the pear yogurt cake. Both took awhile before serving. Pear yogurt cake was moist with yogurt flavour. Soft velvety pear was light and uplighting. Love this ingredient combination. Lightly brown crust was slight harder than the cake which gave a better texture. Banana and nutella pancake was slight disappointing. Pancake was cakey which was okay but the melted nutella has little no nutella flavour. Even i was soaking the whole pancake with the sauce. Service was excellent. Urban coffee roaster has recently made its debut in Causeway Bay. Came on a week day during lunch hour and there was no queue at all (but my wife and I got the last table).

This place is spacious and I like how they didn’t try to squeeze too many tables within the space where everyone gets to sit comfortably.

This joint is famous for its coffee but we didn't order any of the specialties. Instead, we went for a matcha latte with 2 dishes from the a-la-carte menu.

Grilled beef hanger steak donburi - a pricy dish but the beef was so tender and mixing with the onsen egg was absolutely sensational. I wish the portion could be bigger though.
