Read moreWe love German food, and in Hong Kong we understand that often the dishes will not be quite at the same standard as Hofbräuhaus. So, we went with modest expectations but King Ludwig failed to meet them. Upon arrival, there was something floating in the glass of water provided. The glass was exchanged. But, this was the highlight of the service received on this trip.
We went as a two, and ordered the pork knuckle and meat ball dumpling, along with two beers. The total cost was $624.
The crisp knuckle arrived with a fork only, with the staff surprised when we requested a knife to cut it. There was insufficient meat for two people. But we didn’t need to fight over it. It was disappointingly dry. There was a meagre portion of sauerkraut, which was dry. But the worst of the dish were the potatoes — these were also dry. But importantly, they were deep fried to oblivion, and led us to question whether they were genuine potatoes or made with a potato-esq substance. We were given gravy upon request for some desperately needed moisture, but only after waiting five minutes to find a member of staff.
The less said about the meat ball dumpling the better. This was based on the classic German spätzle dish, but they butchered it. The texture was leaden, dry with a sickening aftertaste of the low quality chorizo they shoehorned into the dish for some reason.
A reviewer above mentioned King Ludwig rolling in his grave, I’m sure he wouldn’t endorse this dish either.
We left much of the food, and most of our beer. Nevertheless, when paying or leaving, the staff did not ask us how our meal was, or if everything was okay, which should be standard F&B practice. But had they asked, we would have said a more polite version of the above.
In conclusion, we will not return and we will warn all our associates not to come here. And I hope no one from Germany discovers the insult to their country taking place in...
Read moreAs German tourists in Hong Kong for the first time, we felt attracted by the restaurant "King Ludwig". We entered at around 9.30 pm. Because we had seen on Google that the restaurant was only open until midnight, we asked the waiter if it was still possible to order food. The waiter said yes, which is why we ordered beer and food with the active support of the waiter. The first beer arrived quickly.
After the second round of beer, the waiter came to us and told us that the last order had now been placed and asked us if we would like to order anything else. We first asked where our food was. The waiter replied that it would be brought straight to the table, so we ordered two more beers. These two beers arrived at around 10.30 pm but came with the bill and the waiter told us that the restaurant was now closing. We asked again where is our food we ordered. The waiter replied that there was no more food because the pub was closing and the kitchen was already closed.
We pointed out to the waiter that the opening hours on Google were listed until midnight and that it was unacceptable to be more or less thrown out of the place now. However, the waiter didn't care and even asked us to pour down our beer and leave the pub.
We reluctantly paid the bill, downed our beer and left the pub without having eaten.
In conclusion, we are generally very disappointed with the restaurant as we were deliberately lied to about the food and...
