Shop B 路邊攤: A Trendy Take on Dai Pai Dong, But… 🤔🍽️
I had this place bookmarked for a while and finally decided to give it a try with friends after seeing the social buzz. 📍🔥 Located in Sai Ying Pun, "Shop B" 路邊攤 has a cool, trendy exterior that stands out. But once inside, the experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. 😕 The six-course menu ($388 per person) felt overpriced, with dishes that were excessively oily and salty. 🛢️🧂 For tourists looking for a modern twist on Hong Kong street food, this might be an interesting spot, but as a local, I can confidently say there are better, more affordable options elsewhere.
That being said, a few dishes did impress. ✨ The Crab Roe Chawanmushi 🦀🍮 was smooth, and rich, while the Portuguese Curry Crab Cake 🦀🍛 had a nice crisp texture and flavorful curry notes. Other dishes, however, felt too heavy, making it hard to enjoy the meal fully. The worst part? The ventilation was poor, and after an hour inside, I walked out smelling like a deep fryer. 😵💨💨
Overall, "Shop B" has a fun, casual vibe, with friendly staff and an aesthetic that appeals to the Instagram crowd. 📸✨ But for those who truly appreciate Hong Kong street food, this place might not hit the mark. Would I come back? Maybe just for a quick bite of the chawanmushi… and only if I’m sitting near...
Read moreVenturing into this culinary establishment, one is met with a disappointing diminution in portion size, rendering each dish a mere morsel rather than a satisfying meal. The flavors, alas, are marred by an egregious excess of sodium, necessitating a constant flow of water to dilute their overpowering salinity. Yet, even the water itself becomes an unintended mainstay, as diners find themselves imbibing copiously in a bid to mitigate the culinary assault.
Adding to the ambiance's shortcomings, the dim lighting casts an unwelcome shadow over the dining experience, while the cacophony of noise only serves to exacerbate the sense of disquiet. Regrettably, the staff’s approach lacks the proactive attentiveness expected in such establishments, leaving patrons feeling neglected amidst their culinary ordeal.
Moreover, the exorbitant pricing further compounds the disappointment, far surpassing any reasonable estimation of value. In sum, it is with a heavy heart that I dissuade all prospective diners from indulging in this culinary...
Read moreReserved a table for two for dinner at 8 PM and paid a non-refundable deposit in advance, but we ended up sitting outside during Hong Kong's summer. The booking system didn't allow us to choose between indoor and outdoor seating. What's the point of a non-refundable reservation when I could just walk in sitting the same table?
I came specifically for the "TV Famous Pigeon" dish. After placing several orders, the staff informed us it was sold out, we had to choose other dishes since the deposit couldn't be refunded. Again, what's the point of a reservation if I couldn’t pre-select any food when the restaurant is aware that some dishes sell out quickly?
The Scallop and Choi Sum were okay. The Cod fish and Oysters and were also okay, didn’t expect fresh. But they had similar heavy flavoring and were very salty(personal taste), leaving us very thirsty afterward.
In summary, the restaurant has GREAT marketing but lacks standards and management. "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice,...
