Whisky & Words — Restaurant in Hong Kong

Hong Kong has a lot of world-class whisky bars, but this isn’t one of them - you can skip it.

The server (who I think was likely the owner) proudly bragged to me that they have 400 whiskies - but their whisky list is wildly out of date, and they aren’t willing to help you find a whisky you’ll like, so I’m not sure how much good a selection that size does.

I asked for something off the list, and they said they were out. That’s totally fine, but they didn’t offer to help me find something similar, they just ended the conversation there.

Giving up on the whisky list (which already looked very short compared to what was in the bar), I asked the server for help instead. This is how that conversation went:

“Do you have any special edition lagavulin? I see you have a lot of lagavulin bottles.” “We have 2018 jazz festival” “What’s special about it” “It’s from the jazz festival ” “Yeah but like what makes it different from normal lagavulin? Is it a different cask?” “I’m not sure but you should try it”

Not exactly the help I’m looking for when trying to pick one of their 400 whiskies to try! They offered no follow up help, or guidance towards a whisky he did know more about. They left me alone again and ended the conversation. Eventually I just pointed at something I recognized and asked for that.
